Docent Skaldir

The Order of the Eye is a sub-faction of the Mages Guild that specializes in the art of sight and use their abilities to scour tombs and ruins for extraplanar threats like the Planemeld in the mid-Second Era.[1][2] They also seek out daedric artifacts and rifts created from the veil that separates Nirn and Oblivion.[2] Members of the order are called Scryers and are normally taught by the Docent.[3]

The Order of the Eye utilizes a myriad of tools in their profession, such as a scrying-bowl filled with water,[4] a gazing mirror,[5] and spheres that are sometimes made from metal like ebony. They also practice augury and use flocks of birds to receive their sight.[6]

History[edit]

In 2E 582, the Order of the Eye were employed by the Mages Guild in response to the Planemeld. Daedric artifacts associated with the Prince of Madness, Sheogorath, had appeared all throughout Tamriel in various dungeons. The Mage Alvur Baren enlisted adepts of the guild to hunt down these artifacts and return them to the guild.[1]

Later that year, many members of the Order received hazy visions of a daedric artifact and began independent investigations on their visions. However, each one of them were later killed by their own shadows.[2] A dispatch was sent out by an associate scryer, Docent Skaldir, to meet with him at the Guildhall in Mournhold. One person that received the dispatch was the Vestige, who made haste to Mournhold and met with Skaldir. Unfortunately, Skaldir was killed by his own shadow before he could finish relaying information to the Vestige. Skaldir's friend, Bonafryd of Clan Owlcloak, asked the Vestige to warn other members of the Order before they suffered the same fate as Skaldir.[7]

After they met with the three other scryers, the Vestige received a vision of the Psijic Mage, Lilatha, that they should meet her in Vulkhel Guard after they fulfilled her task for them. Eventually, the Vestige met with Lilatha and found their way to the island of Dranil Kir, where they were ambushed by Bonafryd, who revealed her involvement in the shadow attacks. The Vestige struck down the traitorous mage and received a vision from the Obscuros that showed the Clockwork City and an unknown daedra.[7]

Notes[edit]

  • It is unknown how the Order of the Eye relates with the Master of the Scrye, a high-ranking member of the Mages Guild that serves as counsel to the Master of Incunabula.[8]
