I met Toutis Mido ouside the Ayleid ruins of Silorn. I agreed to help him recover Aetherial shards from the ruins, which are overrun with minotaurs and necromancers, by using a device called the Aetherial alarum.

Detailed Walkthrough

Procrastination leads to...

Outside of Silorn you'll find a mage named Toutis Mido. Talking to him will tell you that he has been procrastinating his work, and by the time he decided to do it Silorn was overrun by minotaurs and necromancers (which he will complain always seem to come in groups, never alone). He asks you to help him recover Aetherial shards from the ruin by using a device called the Aetherial alarum, which he will show you how to use once inside.

Head inside Silorn and continue forward until you find the First Aetherial Shard. It's in the first room directly on the left. Once you find it, talk to Toutis. After he laughs a bit at how the group of necromancers working together probably couldn't even figure out how to release the shards, he will show you how to use the Aetherial alarum: activating the alarum will trigger the untethering process. During that process, the crystal pylons surrounding the shard emit a pattern, which will be the key to unlocking the shard. The answer to the first shard is simply the first pylon on the left (closest to the way you approached), and then the first on the right. After this, Toutis will let you be so you can do the rest.

Collecting the shards

The next objective is to gather four more shards. On the map, you can see a rough location of them. You can take them in any order. The most northern one is in the big room at the top of the map. You'll find the necromancers and minotaurs aren't on friendly terms. Fight your way trough. In this room, you'll also find the boss Galrok the Burning. The Aetherial Shard is in the north-west corner. The answer to this one is second pylon right, second pylon left, first pylon left (from the direction you approach). If you still need the dungeons skyshard, this is a good moment get it. Take the stairs up in this room, cross the bridge, then follow the path straight to it. There are also some goblins of the Rotbreath Tribe here as well as some ogres, who apparently are on much friendlier terms with the minotaurs than the necromancers are.

From the skyshard location, continue the path to the area marked on the east side of the map. In this area, the boss Bone-Breaker and Shaman Rezzutum may be present. The pylon is on the south-west side of this room. The answer for this one is right second, right first, left second. Take the shard, and continue south until you reach the most southern area marked on the map. As you make your way down, you will run into Bristlebacks and Tharrikers in addition to the previous enemies. Once you reach the most southern area marked, the boss Shepherd of the Doomed might be there. If so, destroy him and go to the shard which is in the north-east corner of the room and use the alarum. The answer to this one is second right, third left, first left. From there, continue on to the west towards the last marked area. In this last area, the boss Juxheis the Dread may be present. After defeating her go to the shard which is in the north-west corner. Be aware that there is a enemy spawn at this location, and if you last too long the enemies might re-spawn disrupting your work. This shard doesn't have a puzzle, after using the alarum you can take it right away. Take it and leave for the exit.

A totally not existing dream of friendship, power, and controlling the dead

Once outside, speak with Toutis Mido. His way of speaking implies he wished to have fallen in with them/is a necromancer himself (by stating how obviously he isn't). He will give you your reward and the quest finishes, while telling you it's over and he didn't even learned a lesson about procrastinating because it all worked out, like always. Asking a bit more, he will tell you that he "wonders" what those necromancers where planning, and "theorises" they wanted to use the Aetherial shards to raise those minotaurs as their thralls. He will also continue to claim he "doesn't know" the first thing of necromancy, and that it's "not" like he could run inside to ask someone to teach him which might tell what he has been up to while "procrastinating" (although him being outside show he has failed). If you ask him if he wants to be a necromancer, he'll enthusiastically asks you if you think he would make a good one, which is obviously just a "joke". Then he continues to draw a dreamy picture of him travelling with fellow necromancers, killing anyone who displeases them and raising them to do their bidding.
