Uriel look a like[edit]

Yes, I think We should make a picture of him in the game rather then the cutscene, there is a good one on google images: Search "Oblivion Emperor" Under LArge images. Anyway, I made a character that looks like him, and am wondering: what is his birthsign?

Simple answer: he hasn't got one. While all NPC's in the world have a class like the player, most do not have birthsigns. The few NPC's who do have one usually have a combination of diffirent effects from the normal Birthsigns (i.e. the ones the player can use.). I just restarted Oblivion again and his dialogue made me wonder this too. The fact he says "Your stars are not mine" indicates he has one lore-wise, and the fact he always says this indicates it's different from all of the player's options. While I'm guessing this is just something not meant to be thaught about too much and is therefor probably useless to look further into, it leaves me wanting to find an explanation that fits both with the in-game text and the lore. — Cambionn (talk) 17:58, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Well according to the calender on The Imperial University website the Emperor's birthday is celebrated on the 30th of Frost Fall, therefore he should be born under the Tower.

Obtaining the Emperor's Robes[edit]

Using the Skull of Corruption and the Staff of Worms, I was able to get Uriel's robes. I did this simply by using the Skull's duplication glitch. I didn't see this posted anywhere on this article, Martin's article, or the clothing article. Mast3r Of Pupp3ts 01:08, 24 March 2008 (EDT)

Except there's only way to possibly obtain the Skull of Corruption and Staff of Worms before Uriel dies and is removed from the game: by using the Console to give yourself the staves. At which point, you might as well just skip the trouble of using the staves and just use player.additem 23D33 1 to get the robes whenever you want. And putting a note next to every single item in the game saying "you could obtain this item by using the console additem command" seems a bit redundant. Not to mention, why would you even want to go to all of this trouble to obtain a set of unenchanted robes? --NepheleTalk 01:18, 24 March 2008 (EDT)
Well, apparently I can obtain both the Staff and the Skull without Uriel's body being removed. After completing the Mages Guild quests, (and no others, other than the Vaermina quest)I simply went back to the Imperial Prison Sewers, made my way back to the Sanctum and got the robes. Also, I couldn't have used the console command, I'm on the 360. As for obtaining the robes, I have no idea. How do you perform the duplication glitch on Uriel's clone? Or can the clone be damaged, unlike Uriel himself?

I am having a similar problem killing Uriel's clone. He has some sort of regen on that won't let me kill him fast enough. However, it is entirely possible to get the Skull and Staff of Worms to clone him without cheating. I used the spell from the Hill of Suicides quest though, same net result. So the man is right Nephele. Now the problem, for me, is killing him... I hope I don't have to go get Mehrune's Razor just to do this, but I want those robes! It depends on your level and weapon. You should probably be a little higher of level or have a stronger weapon. Uriel's health will ALWAYS remain at 1000. You just have to try harder.

I've been having a problem with getting the robes as well. I've got both staffs + Mehrunes Razor, so I can clone + kill relatively easily, but then I can't loot it's body. Cutscene glitch[edit]

On the PC, I was messing around and ended up using a console command to kill the assassin that kills the emperor. I thought I could save the emperor,but,it ended up glitching and now my character is stuck in the cutscene mode and can not do a thing. I have tried many things, like bringing the emperor and the assassin back to life, but it did not work. Help! Master264 21:03, 27 September 2008 (EDT)

Deserving of a "Lore:" Article?[edit]

I was wondering if anyone else is up for making a Lore:Uriel_Septim_VII article. Whilst this Oblivion article is fairly important as it catalogues all his in-game statistics and whatnot, he has a fair bit of backstory that the little stub here cannot cover. Unique Dialogue[edit]

That depends. If his dialogue only makes sense within the context of the other NPCs dialogue, then we should put it all on there. Hmm, it looks nice - and it's great to get the dialogue on the page (remember to add your name to the ONPCRP-box, btw). Nevertheless, there's probably a bit too much use of bold - if it should be consistent with other pages. I would suggest to make all the names in bold (the "player", "Uriel" and "Renault"-words) - and then have all the dialogue without bold. It's really a matter of personal taste, though. But I like the overall idea of mentioning who is talking every time. I might do something similar on the Roderick-page. --Krusty 21:21, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Great, though I would rather have the dialogue without links, because all that blue does not look nice in there. We can link to Renault en Baurus later, when the rest of information is added. How come no-one has filled in that upon Glenroy saying get over to the window, the emperor says in a wondering tone, "I know this place, the prison?"? Stirksailor 02:00, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

On PC I had never heard him say that until I used 'tai' on Renualt, which stopped her from walking down the stairs (but didn't stop her from speaking her lines) and that is when I heard him say that sentence. And then Renault says a few lines, telling him about the secret passageway. Without that manipulation I did, Renault never says those lines, and the Emperor's comments are not heard, or just barely understandable since others are speaking at almost exactly the same time. The scripting apparantly didn't time it right (she notices you when she reaches the front of the bars, but that is before she got had a chance to talk to the Emperor about the passageway).Bamspeedy 23:08, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Premature Balding[edit]

Ok, so this has been happening to me when I play the begining. So I was talking to the emperor(we were in the large room connected to the room he dies in) and I guess it was that big ray of light, but when I talked to him, his hair went POOF! It was hillarious really, and by further experimentation, I found that that ray of light seems to over-shadow his hair no matter how many times I play. I have no idea how codes and stuff work, I don't get what the "Construction Set" is either but that is a different topic, so Im just assuming the code for the light covers his hair or something? Just curious...

Uriel Septim's Final Speech[edit]

I managed to trigger the longer speech on the Xbox 360 version. If you save the moment before the Emperor talks to you for the final time and then reload, the longer speech is triggered. Note that you must save a split second before the conversation triggers (i.e. camera zooming in). I had to save and reload several times while the Emperor was walking towards me in order to get the timing right. The conversation breakdown is as follows:
First dialogue selection:
  • Your Amulet? Then this is 'Goodbye'?
  • What Amulet?
Second dialogue selection:
  • "So, this is it?"
Note: This only appears if you choose "What Amulet?" in the first dialogue selection. Choosing "Your Amulet? Then this is 'Goodbye?' immediately advances the converstion to the final selection.
Final dialogue selection:
  • With all my heart...farewell...
  • I won't forget you...
  • I'll take it from here...

To add fuel to the fire, I just got the final speech without the saving business. I did the tutorial as usual, and suddenly, Urial gave me the longer version. I also got all the optional dialogue that he says (Standing close to the cell doors to trigger the line "I recognize this place - the prison?," his request to rest for just a little longer, and his request that you come closer so that he wouldn't have to shout). Presumably, however, his final speech trigger is completely random. Nyttyn (talk) 10:01, 23 November 2012 (GMT)
I was readily able to confirm the save-and-reload method in-game. It took a couple of tries, but it happened. I was off to one side of him and just as he turned to speak to me, I saved. Reloading the first time, I got the usual dialogue; the second time, I got the extended version.
As for the VN, the game files are unhelpful here. Based on the data, there is no condition at all that should cause the longer text to show up. The save-reload method works only due to a fluke of the game mechanics. Both versions are set to be spoken only once. By saving at the "wrong" time, it appears that at least sometimes, it believes the first version has been spoken already, so it falls through to the second version.
Saving early enough not to trigger the above method, I was unable to trigger the longer version randomly over about 20 tries, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. As a point of comparison, the extra line of dialogue mentioned above that occurs while you're still in jail will usually only occur if something delays Uriel Septim, like a pathing oddity causing him to take longer. In 99% of games, that won't happen, but every once in a while, some fluke of the physics engine causes it to happen. There could be a similar effect here that I just never triggered, where perhaps he tries once, fails, then falls through similar to the save-reload method. I was able to set up a similar situation, where I got him to walk towards me, then abort when I ran away, but that didn't do it—he still spoke his normal lines. Perhaps some more imaginative person can figure something else out that I didn't. Whatever it is that triggers it randomly without reloading, I'd say it's extremely rare, perhaps even a one-off occurrence. Robin Hood  (talk) 18:59, 5 May 2014 (GMT)
It could've been cut dialogue that made its way in to the final version of the game with an unpatched bug. I know, I know, it sounds crazy but it's possible. Nothing crazy about it...that's actually what I think is the most likely scenario. Or it was just a plain old bug, where they meant to have it be random between the two, or maybe even one after the other, and just goofed on the implementation. The game files won't give us anything more than they already have, though. I heard the dialogue myself for the first time today, and I can only think of one thing that was different from previous playthroughs; All of the Mythic Dawn cultists that had spawned after Baurus says "Guard him with your life" were dead before the discussion was initiated... Easter Egg[edit]

the name Uriel Septim VII. Uriel Pronounced: YUWR-ee-əl which has the meaning "God is my light". Uriel was one of the seven archangels in Hebrew tradition. the name Uriel septim VII, may be a play on the number 777. Septim is latin for seven. VII is the roman number for 7.

In Oblivion, very few NPC's have a Birthsing and they do not have the same Birthsings that the player can choose but unique Birthsings(like Mankar Camoran's birthsing. --Rigas Papadopoulos 14:30, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Emperor's Hair[edit]

If the bugs/glitches are associated with specific quests, they belong on the quest page. Console commands are generally only included on articles if they are necessary to fix bugs. Easter eggs have their own page. Mods are not listed on regular articles. Feel free to contribute to the page if you feel improvements are necessary, but a new page certainly isn't needed. Gettysburg Speech Influence on Uriel Septim's age?[edit]

Abraham Lincoln's famous speech at Gettysburg forever immortalized starts with "Four Score and Seven years ago" A score in the term of years is 20 years. So effectively Abraham Lincoln speaks that 87 years ago something important happened.

Uriel Septim VII is eighty seven years old. So at the time of Oblivion Crisis when we meet him for the last time, he was born four score and seven years ago and ruled Tamriel for three score and five years, effectively 60 years and half a decade.

Therefore I wonder if his age has influence from Abraham Lincoln's famous speech and that's why Uriel Septim with the voice of Patrick Stewart delivers a famous speech of his own?

Julius Caesar[edit]

I think the similarities between Uriel and Caesar should be noted. This page mentions one quote from the play, but there are several more I have found:


"My death, a necessary end, will come when it will come." "Seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come." (Act 2, Scene 2)

"The skies are marked with numberless sparks, each a fire, and every one a sign." "The skies are painted with unnumber'd sparks, they are all fire and every one doth shine..." (Act 3, Scene 1) [marked/painted, numberless/unnumber'd are essentially the same and sign/shine rhyme]

"Men are but flesh and blood." "And men are flesh and blood..." (Act 3, Scene 1)


Aside from quotes, they are both leaders of empires who get assassinated. The assassins (Mythic Dawn/conspirators) are later killed by one of their allies (player/Mark Antony and Octavius). Glitch[edit]
