Shicca?[edit]

Yeah, that's me. A 28 year old Norwegian RPG fan. Played several PRG's of all styles. From the very western Elder Scrolls-series to the Eastern Final Fantasy games. Have played Daggerfall quite alot, and ofcause Morrowind before Oblivion.

Morrowind > Oblivion[edit]

This is my own opinion about these games. Like them or not. This is why I think Morrowind is a better game than Oblivion.

  • Better map. I loved how the map in Morrowind worked. Zoom, and after a few patches; notes. The map felt alot more "alive"
  • Unexpected encounters. Another point I really loved in Morrowind. Who could forget the poor naked Nord by Caldera? Or the Woman ontop of a giant plant far down in the dungeon of Kogoruhn? These are sadly nowhere to be found in Oblivion. Ofcause it was kinda stupid that that Nord just stood there day and night, but can you remember what first crossed your mind when you encounterd him? Laughter, i bet.
  • Better Mainquest. Morrowinds Mainquest beat Oblivion's by far. More history, more lore, and by far bigger overall.
  • Factions. More factions to join = More quests. 7 normal factions in addition to 3 Great Houses and 3 Different Vampire clans. Loved the way you could sign up for the army (Imperial Legion), or follow the Imperial Cult.
  • Build your own house. The Stronghold quests from the Great Houses. Build a house that reflects your character.
  • More static rewards. I love exploring dungeons, caves, old ruins, or simply exploring the ocean. As far as I know there is only *one* certain item that occur to all players regardless of level in Oblivion. A enchanted Glass Helmet outside Anvil. There where far more items in Morrowind. Waiting to be found. Those little things that made exploring worth doing. Because Oblivion follow the rules of leveled loot, there is really no "major" reward for searching a cave.

Oblivion > Morrowind[edit]

This is my own opinion about these games. Like them or not. This is the points I find Oblivion better then Morrowind.

  • More epic feeling. Graphic can really make an impact. Natural surroundings and more life like NPC makes this world more alive then the more static world of Morrowind.
  • Enchanting and spellmaking restricted to Mages Guild. I like it. Really. Those Recommendation quests aren't that hard (Most difficult is IMHO Leyawiin), and a little work to get access to the most powerful features in the game is only natural.
  • Radiant AI. Yes, It's not perfect, but it is a BIG step in the right direction. This is how it should be done. RPG makers out there. Mark this! We're tired of NPC stading all day and night at the same bloody location. Classic question: "Do they ever pee?"

What do I play?[edit]

Name: Rivah
Race: Dunmer
Gender: Female
Birthsign: The Warrior
Attributes: Endurance, Intelligence
Skills: Destruction, Conjuration, Blade, Light Armour, Mercantile, Armourer, Restoration

Strange setup my may ask? Well, let me explain. Too keep my HP at a good level throughout the game I chose The Warrior for those extra Endurance points at the start. Specialization is Steath to get a few extra points in Marksman and Sneak. 70% of the fighting is still done with a undetected arrow. Having Destruction and Blade as Major skills ensures that those remaing 30% is not forgotten. Restoration is a must sadly. Having a strong Heal other is allmost mandatory in certain quests. Armourer (along with a Block now and then) ensures that my Endurance don't fall behind. Conjuration is to keep the Intelligence up. Alchemy is very usefull, but as a Major it can become a problem because you level up based on a non-combat skill to fast. A quick run looking in boxes, sacks etc, inside both the Mages Guild and Fighters Guild is like 10 skillpoints worth of Restore Fatigue Potions. Light Armour is there for the little protection I need in those times the 30% of the fighting is not done with a bow. Attributes is Endurance to keep ensure that Amourer and Block level faster, and give me those +4 / +5 to Endurance when I levelup. Intelligence is needed to get the Conjuration and Alchemy (not major remember) level faster and thus give me more magicka.

At lv. 36, I've found this build very balanced. I've discoverd however that Conjuration was not the best choice, I don't think Mysticism would have been any better either. A soul trap spell is far to simple. But I felt I needed atleast one Intelligence skill to keep my mana high. With almost only one skill from each attribute, I'm far more free to level those other skills required to get a few +5 now and then. It's worked pretty well. Only thing I don't have control over is Merchantile, but that's just a minor issue. I can at one level do my regular fighting and thus get Agility and Speed fast up because I use Sneak and Marksman. Athletics, Acrobatics will always increase anyway. Next level I can than focus on close combat (Blade, Block, Conjuration and Destruction), which will help my Endurance (block along with armourer), Intelligence and Willpower.

Main Quest: Completed (I actually miss those gates)
Dark Brotherhood: Listener
Fighers Guild: Master
Mages Guild: Arch Mage
Thieves Guild: Gray Fox
Arena: Warrior
