New Image[edit]
I added the image of Tolfdir. I'm new at this and I think it might need to be resized so the thumbnail isn't so tiny.--Someguy5 23:38, 6 December 2011 (UTC)Someguy5
Tolfdir missing ?[edit]
Has anyone else had a problem with not being able to find Tolfdir ? I'm now the arch-mage.I have his alembic & I want to get to the aftershock quest but despite reloading & leaving for a while & coming back, he seems to have completely disappeared.62.49.72.185 08:38, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Never mind - after visiting the college on about 5 different occasions & not being able to find him anywhere, the sixth time he turned up right in front of me when I entered the cloister area. Still think it's weird that I couldn't find him anywhere before.62.49.72.185 11:02, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
This happened just to me, Anniveresary Edition with Unofficial Patch installed. I cannot find him anywhere now I am Arch-mage. I will be looking for him after couple of days again. It would be nice to know if he is going to somewhere to do something specific, like burying the old arch mage or something.
rouge wizard[edit]
it seems that he does offter the quest rouge wizard to me i have finshed the questline so that is very wired anyone want to help.
Albemic[edit]
does his albemic actually exist, and if so where is it? (Eddie The Head 08:11, 17 January 2012 (UTC))
- Did you look at the locations described at the quest page Tolfdir the Absent-Minded ? --Alfwyn 16:52, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Personality[edit]
Perhaps if enough evidence could be aquired through means such as talking to the people who designed Tolfdir etc.
What I see from Tolfdir is, all throughout your meetings with him he will act as if he does not know much about what is happening, but the tone he uses is very much otherwise. For example when you first pick up the amulet in the Mage storyline he will ask you what happened, even though he clearly knows what happened. He then asks you "How on earth did that happen?" Which is obviously another question which he knows the answer to. His tone implies that he knows exactly what is happeneing, you are safe and there is nothing to worry about. He then says that you should put on the amulet and then try your magic on the wall to see what happens. Obviously you become free of your temporary prison and all is well.
I am lead to believe that Tolfdir knows a lot more then his characters speach implies, with his voice actors tone.
His personality is that of a very caring, loving person almost alike to a father-figure to the character.
Would anyone else have anything to add to this point? ~Lucas
Tolfdir as a follower[edit]
During The Eye of Magnus quest, you bring the Staff of Magnus toward the College of Winterhold. As you approach Tolfdir (on the bridge I believe), you engage in conversation during which he says that he will follow you (briefly albeit if you continue ahead with the quest). However, I noticed that he actually did follow me, even as I decided not to continue the quest, but rather decided to head into the town of Winterhold. This needs confirmation of course that he actually would act as a follower by shadowing you and helping you defeat enemy NPCs. But if he actually does, it would probably be a good idea to add this to the Followers page. (Brother Bob 19:50, 20 June 2012 (UTC))
Mass paralysis tome[edit]
On one of my saves (character level 58), Tolfdir is selling this spell. My level in alteration is 38 so obviously I haven't done the supposed required quest. I'm on an up-to-date version on the xbox 360. Is there any explaination on why this happened? 71.241.134.166 00:46, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Slight clarification.[edit]
In the description, it states "Later, after completing Hitting the Books, the Eye and Tolfdir will move to the Hall of the Elements.". However, he actually leaves Saarthal at some point after *initiating* Hitting the Books. I have only initiated the quest, and he is already gone from Saarthal. 1NUY4SH4 (talk) 23:23, 19 April 2014 (GMT)
Warding fireballs: no bug anymore[edit]
The bug section says "If you fail to ward his fireball during the First Lessons quest, a bug causes him to not continue the quest." But this is not true, he will simply try again and again to fireball you, giving you more chances to ward it. Confirmed on x360.— Unsigned comment by 69.127.112.205 (talk) at 20:08 on 21 June 2014
- Please read the page before posting things like this. The page clearly states that version 1.9 of the Official Skyrim patch fixes that bug. --AN|L (talk) 20:55, 23 June 2014 (GMT)
- That was actually only added earlier today, and it appears to be false, judging by the patch notes. I've undone the change. Also, it is true that if your ward drops, Tolfdir will keep trying until you can keep it up long enough for him to throw the fireball at you. ThuumofReason (talk) 21:09, 23 June 2014 (GMT)
"Ref"[edit]
The Notes section states, "Tolfdir’s ref uses a title normally never seen, where he is referred to as Tolfdir the White." What is a "ref" in this case? Do we have a page about it that could be linked? ~Cain 2023-11-29
- "Ref" in this case is a Reference, or an object placed into the game. A brief explanation of References with respect to Form IDs can be found here. Briefly, every object in the game (NPC, container, etc.) is first defined as a Base object, or prototype, where the object's various properties are defined. These Base objects can then be placed into the game world; these placed objects are called References. Every object you interact with while playing the game is a Reference. In Tolfdir's case, his Reference has been given the Editor ID "TolfdirTheWhiteRef", which is where the information in the note comes from. (An Editor ID is a unique name given to objects so they can be referred to in scripts, etc.)
- If you're interested in learning more about how the game works, your best bet is to search for modding tutorials. A good place to start might be the Skyrim Creation Kit wiki, which has a fair number of tutorials and articles dealing with specifics of how the game works "under the hood". — Wolfborn(Howl) 05:05, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
