Weak Corpses[edit]
Why do all reanimate scrolls say reanimate "weak" corpse? — Unsigned comment by Broxigar (talk • contribs) at 12:13 on 17 December 2011
Scroll of detect life[edit]
The scroll of detect life is working very sketchy for me. For awhile it refused to work if fully charged and other times it refused to show me all those that were alive in the room. I charge it for the same amount each time and get different results when casting.--Zar Pof 04:49, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
- The scroll version of detect life makes line of sight checks, which means you won't be able to detect things through walls. This is, as far as I'm concerned, a bug. It can be easily fixed by using the Creation Kit. —97.69.211.121 07:56, 19 October 2012 (GMT)
Mass Paralysis Scroll[edit]
Anybody else just paralyzing themselves when they use this scroll? It uses the same magic effect as the spell itself, yet when I use it my character is just paralyzed for 10 seconds. No nearby actors are affected either. The spell works fine for me so I don't think it's a problem with the magic effect. I wonder if other "cast on self" scrolls might have a similar bug? --Bluedanieru 09:25, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- Blizzard also damages you when you use the scroll. In fact, it tends to get you killed faster than if you had not used it, because you take damage from the scroll and from your attackers. Varus2319 00:18, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Scrolls and Skill experience[edit]
I have used a Blizzard scroll during the attack to winterhold and got a level of Destruction doing so. Have anyone experienced same situation? — Unsigned comment by 187.77.225.154 (talk) at 18:03 on 21 April 2013
- You're right, I get that as well, and the XP amount isn't small, either. The question is: is that a fluke with that one scroll or is the information on the page wrong/out-of-date? I've tagged it for further investigation. If I remember, I'll do some myself tomorrow. – Robin Hood (talk) 07:09, 22 April 2013 (GMT)
- The VN tag is still on the page, so I decided to verify it: I tested Scrolls of Harmony, Mass Paralysis, Guardian Circle, Fire Storm, and Storm Thrall, all of which gave me no XP, but Scrolls of Blizzard got me some XP, though not as much as casting it with magicka. So it's probably a bug with one or more scrolls. —<({Quill-Tail>> 11:32, 10 June 2014 (GMT)
Shalidor's Insight Scroll Effects[edit]
I notice that there are links to the 'Modify [School]' pages, but that the pages themselves don't actually exist. I'd take the initiative, but I have no idea how the whole process of creating an entirely new page works, nor do I have access to the Creation Kit, so I can't get exact numbers. I will say that, according to my (limited) testing, the 'Modify Destruction' effect doubles damage and halves mana cost for all Destruction spells. Swk3000 (talk) 15:40, 29 May 2013 (GMT)
- We've actually been talking about this for a little while. The main issue is that the Modify [School] abilities aren't spells in their own right, but just effects. Thus, a spell page isn't really the right page to make, and we have been trying to figure out what kind of page it needs. If you want to tinker around with it, you can create a sandbox by creating a page in your own userspace (just go to your userpage and add
/[PAGENAME]
to the end, and create a page with whatever name you want). Jeancey (talk) 15:47, 29 May 2013 (GMT)- A Spell page may not be right, but there are also pages for effects. For example, there is a page for Fire Damage, and it isn't about any of the spells that do Fire Damage; it's about the Fire Damage effect in general. I would imagine that an Effect page would be perfect for these. Swk3000 (talk) 16:08, 29 May 2013 (GMT)
Scroll of dragonhide[edit]
Is it possible to find a scroll of dragonhide in random loot?--82.46.168.98 10:15, 14 September 2013 (GMT)
- The scroll is not anywhere in the game except in the QA cell, only accessible on PC via console commands and not a part of normal gameplay. I don't know how to mark that on the page. Vely►t►e 14:33, 14 September 2013 (GMT)
Leveled scrolls[edit]
Do low level scrolls still have a chance of appearing in chests at level 100+? Also do court mages have a random selection of scrolls or are they leveled or do they only sell master-level scrolls?--82.46.168.98 15:08, 5 November 2013 (GMT)--82.46.168.98 15:08, 5 November 2013 (GMT)
Levels at which scrolls appear?[edit]
"Standard scrolls can also be found randomly in loot, where the levels provided below determine which scrolls can appear". Can someone clarify this statement as I have found master levels scrolls (Mass paralysis, guardian circle)in chests at level 5.--82.46.168.98 19:35, 15 February 2014 (GMT)
- Both scrolls are listed at level 24. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:43, 15 February 2014 (GMT)
-
- But what does that mean? Does that mean they should only appear at level 24 because if so soemthing isn't right since I encountered them at level 5, i don't think the page properly explains what the levels mean.--82.46.168.98 20:01, 15 February 2014 (GMT)
-
-
- I misread as you thought the page said level 5. Boss level chests largely ignore levels, can you remember what chests you found the scrolls in? There are also many other factors such as minimum levels of the dungeon and certain scripts for special locations, so the level is really only for generic loot. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 20:06, 15 February 2014 (GMT)

-
- The documented levels are the levels they appear on LItemScrolls (Mass Paralysis is part of the sublist LItemScroll100Skill). But this is probably not very useful info, since LItemScroll100Skill appears in a dozen other lists like LootHagravenScrolls100 or LootVampireScrolls10. --Alfwyn (talk) 20:19, 15 February 2014 (GMT)

(←) I found one in the Valtheim towers in the booby trapped chest immediately right as you enter from the front entrance (the entrance where you're threatened to pay a toll). I can't remember wherre the second scroll was from but I remember it was from bleak falls barrow possibly fromt he boss chest.--82.46.168.98 20:29, 15 February 2014 (GMT)
- The Valtheim one is this chest, and can contain a Mass Paralysis scroll from level 1 on (but has only a 10% chance to contain a scroll at all). --Alfwyn (talk) 21:44, 15 February 2014 (GMT)
-
- Ah thanks, I guess I might as well take this opportunity to ask where the best locations would be to find low level scrolls.--82.46.168.98 23:40, 15 February 2014 (GMT)
-
-
- LItemScroll25Skill scrolls can be gained from Skyrim:Forsworns, I think that would be the best bet. --Alfwyn (talk) 13:57, 16 February 2014 (GMT)
-
(←) I'm removing the documented levels from the page. As it turns out, the list LItemScrolls the levels are based on isn't used by anything in the game. So all sources of those scrolls will come from other lists, making them usually available at level 1. A detailed documentation of the leveled lists for scrolls would be desirable, but just tacking a level to them doesn't seem to work. --Alfwyn (talk) 14:02, 16 February 2014 (GMT)
- The situation is a bit more complicated, but that doesn't change the conclusion. So for completeness sake, the formerly documented levels are also found in LItemSpellVendorScrolls75COPY0000, LootCWSonsScrolls100, LootCWImperialsScrolls100 and LootForswornScrolls100. But those lists too are not used at all. All this severely limits the sources of scrolls, for most it is static locations. Only those "high level" ones sold by spell merchants can be found in random treasure too. This makes many more scrolls unobtainable, though. --Alfwyn (talk) 11:14, 17 February 2014 (GMT)
-
- So its pretty much impossible to find low level scrolls (scroll of runes/cloaks etc)anywhere except where they are scripted to appear?--82.46.168.98 18:53, 17 February 2014 (GMT)
-
-
- Exactly. All standard scrolls not having a location documented can't be found. I'll move those to Unobtainable Item shortly, just giving people some time to catch a mistake in my investigation, not that I think that likely. Anyway, thanks for bringing the issue to our attention. --Alfwyn (talk) 23:34, 17 February 2014 (GMT)
-
- Thanks for looking into it, you saved me a lot of time, I was planning on not continuing my character until I found a cloak scroll for my follower.--82.46.168.98 23:59, 17 February 2014 (GMT)
Scroll of Dead Thrall[edit]
I found a scroll of dead thrall in Wolfskull Ruins (where you go to find necromancers are trying to reanimate Potema). It was in the tower that you gain access to after defeating all the nexromancers (Potema's light escapes), and you can then adctvate a bridge to the 2nd tower. In the base of this tower, I found the scroll of dead thrall in a dark corner. I play on the PC with mods, so could have been mod-added, but without something like refscope, I have no way to ascertain. Someone playing on vanilla please confirm. — Unsigned comment by 67.164.30.218 (talk) at 08:48 on 18 May 2014 (GMT)
Magic sellers refuse to buy or sell certain types of scrolls?[edit]
I've gone around to a bunch of magic sellers, and determined that none of them will buy most of my scrolls. (And no, none of my scrolls are stolen.) The only one they will buy is Paralyze. I have screenshots of Farengar, Wuunferth, Sybille, Wylandriah, Calcelmo, Tolfdir, Drevis, Faralda, Colette, and Phinis all refusing to buy any of my scrolls except Paralyze, while Belethor, Enthir, Madran, Ahkari, and Risaad all willingly buy them; but this wiki will not allow me to post external links to these screenshots, in this post.
The scrolls the magic sellers will refuse to buy are Call To Arms, Candlelight, Chain Lightning, Dread Zombie, Guardian Circle, Harmony, and Mass Paralysis.
Why do magic sellers only buy some scrolls, but not others? And why isn't this in the article? Elen Sila (talk) 04:32, 27 April 2015 (GMT)
