Vlkoslak is a Nord Vampire of the Cronvangr Clan.

Vlkoslak is the current leader of the Cronvangr, having held the title of Broodfather for nearly a thousand years by the time of Alduin's return in 4E 201. Alongside Velfred, he is the last of an older generation of the clan, who ruled Skyrim's vampiric underworld and struck fear into the hearts of mortals across the province. Vlkoslak wants nothing more than to restore the clan to its former glory, but that won't be possible while the Quarra Clan defy his authority and hinder his efforts.

Background[edit]

Vlkoslak was born in Skyrim in the Second Era, and spent much of his life honing his skills as a hunter. One night, after bragging about his skills in a tavern, an old man told him that there was a great beast on Cronvangr Cave which would give him a real challenge. This man was Fjotreid, Broodfather of the Cronvangr Clan at the time, and he turned Vlkoslak into a Vampire because he admired the younger Nord's skills as a hunter. For his part, Vlkoslak accepted this new path in life and put his skills as a hunter to work in service to the Cronvangr Clan, eventually rising through the ranks and becoming Fjotreid's left hand as leader of the clan's hunters.

In the late Third Era, the Clan would be betrayed by Vidmar, Fjotreid's right-hand man and head of security. Vidmar became disillusioned with Fjotreid's leadership and the Cronvangr's methods, so he made a plan to purge the clan of anyone who didn't ally with him, then reforge the survivors into a more brutal organization. In the battle that followed, Fjotreid was slain by Vidmar before Vlkoslak and the other loyalists drove him and his traitors out of the Hall, while slaughtering the vampire hunters Vidmar had allowed in to even the odds. With Fjotreid dead, Vlkoslak became the new Broodfather, Velfred took Vidmar's place as head of security, and a younger member named Rakoslod took Vlkoslak's old position as head of the hunters.

Between Vidmar's betrayal and the Oblivion Crisis, the Cronvangr have lost a great deal of their members and influence. This has not stopped Vlkoslak from working to restore the clan by relying on the traditions of Skyrim's vampires, even as new arrivals like the Quarra and outside influence from the Vampyrum Order change the rules daily.
