Viatrix Caerellia is an Imperial member of Cyrodiil Vampyrum Order. She also operates under the names Viella Carmalo and Vinicia Cartia in mortal circles.

Viatrix is the driving force behind the recent increase in activity between the Quarra and Cronvangr clans, on orders from her superiors to put an end to the conflict before it can threaten Vampyrum interests. Her schemes and plots involve and affect many vampires and mortals throughout the province; sometimes aiding them as long as they prove mutually beneficial to her agenda, until they outlive their usefulness to herself and the Order.

Background

Viatrix's age is unknown, her mortal history is long forgotten, and her exact rank in the Vampyrum Order is unclear. She appears to hold some authority, but she still considers younger members to be a threat in specific conditions. Whatever the case, her skill as an infiltrator and manipulator cannot be understated, as seen in her tactics against rival members and the ease at which she leads mortals like the Vigilants of Stendarr around in circles. Which begs the question of whether Viatrix has been held back due to some stigma against her, or if she simply prefers to work in the shadows to achieve her goals while others take credit for her successes and punishement for her failures.

Dreams in Darkness

Viatrix is responsible for manipulating your dreams into tests of your ability, rather than torturous nightmares commonly experienced by newborn Vampires. She can briefly be seen in the second dream sequence near the door to the cabin if you move quickly after acquiring the key, and later behind a pile of burning rubble inside the same cabin during the third sequence. She will guide you toward Cronvangr Cave and direct Jelkar to follow you, so as to introduce you to the conflict between the clans and leave you with a choice to make regarding your allegiance to one clan or another.

The Bloodfire Amulet

Under her mortal identity, Viella Carmalo, Viatrix has been working with the scholar Thetrard Bierles to locate the final resting place of Aemar Coldblood and the Bloodfire Amulet. As part of her plans to force a confrontation and conclusion between the Quarra and Cronvangr Clans, she has leaked the location to both groups and the Vigilants of Stendarr. Once you've breached Iceblood Barrow you have a chance to catch a glimpse of her standing over Bierles' body after putting an end to his scholarly agenda once and for all, before she teleports away.

A Spy in Solitude

Viatrix has lured a potential rival, Domna Magia, to the catacombs under Solitude under the impression that the Bloodfire Amulet can be found down there and that the Vampyrum leadership is keenly interested in acquiring it. One of Viatrix's agents has infiltrated Domna's thralls and performed a ritual that has caused the dead to rise throughout the crypt, but she intends for you to be the one to put an end to this annoyance. Depending on your chosen faction, Viatrix's influence in these events will be more or less apparent:

• The Cronvangr will have little to no hints about Viatrix's presence in the city.
• The Quarra will learn that someone has been staying at the Winking Skeever, and departed shortly after you entered the city.
• The Vigilants will meet with Viatrix under her 'Viella' disguise as a concerned citizen seeking assistance with vampire sightings in the city.

A suspicious and sneaky Vigilant may notice something odd about Viella: she cannot be pickpocketed or even attacked.

Blood and Snow

Viatrix will appear after you have cleared out the Quarra Lair or Cronvangr Hall. If you are playing a Vigilant, she will appear as Viella before dropping her disguise and gloating about how you have done her a great service by wiping out both clans. Before you or Ciirta can do anything to stop her, she will cast a powerful teleportation spell likely aimed to return to Cyrodiil. Ciirta says she will mention this to the Vigilants in Cyrodiil, but later in Stendarr's Watch, you will find a letter hinting that Viatrix has infiltrated the Cyrodiilic chapter of the Vigilants that Ciirta contacted: Your Recent Report

If you are playing a Vampire, she will congratulate you on your victory and assure you that the Vampyrum Order have no plans for Skyrim or the Bloodfire Amulet at this time. If you have collected several of her notes scattered across Skyrim during the main quest, you can impress her with your investigative skills and she will reward you with the Vampyrum Order Amulet.
