Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
On reaching the rank of Captain in the Cyrodiil Thieves Guild, a special job becomes available from any Guild's Mastermind (in Abecean Shores expansion, either The Arenthian or Caspus Quillan). Apparently The Masqued Captain has asked to see you. You're to bring him three canisters of flashgrit. You will be directed to Caspus Quillan to get this substance - if you've not found him already, Caspus is holed up in Duskwatch Keep on Stirk Isle. If you've not already collected flashgrit during his quest of the same name, you'll be pointed to the So-Mitana Company warehouse in Charach as a place where you can steal what you need.
With flashgrit in your possession, travel to Olvos Isle. This is the large island directly north of Stirk where stands the Rourken ruin of Acharamz. You'll find the Masqued Captain's ship, Crypsis, moored on the island's east side. Board it (there's a rope ladder running down the ship's side) and speak to the Masqued Captain within about jobs. He'll recognize you as the one he's expecting, and outlines the task - retrieving a varla stone from Garlas Malatar. Ask him about these topics and he'll explain that your flashgrit will be needed to blow a path to the stone.
Travel to Garlas Malatar. It's on the coast between Thresvy and Sutch, just southwest of the other Ayleid ruin of Beldaburo. There are two entrances to the Ceysel in the exterior, and it doesn't matter which you use. Pass through this first section to reach the Carac Abaran area. On entering, you'll encounter a Pile of Stone and Rubble. Activate it with three flashgrit in your inventory to blow this away.
Once the blockage is cleared, take the first right, and prepare for a fight. The Ayleid Sorceror-King, Massalamir Thousand-Hands is in the next chamber. He holds the Varla Stone of Reified Desires, so you must defeat it to take this. Return to The Masqued Captain when ready to hand over the varla stone and complete the quest. He'll reward you with King Claudius' Signet Ring - jewelry that once belonged to the missing king of the Kingdom of Anvil. Although worth a pretty penny on its own, it can be traded in for greater reward - assuming that Queen Millona Conomorus sits the kingdom's throne. If so, speak to her about King Claudius to give her the ring. She will reward you with 5,000 gold and an Imperial Royal Silver Longsword in return.
