Console Patch Notes[edit]
It seems like Xbox and PS4 will both have their own patch notes. Do we document these? —Legoless (talk) 19:31, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
- I would assume so. Since the version numbering is different, I think we would also get away with just calling them Patch/01.04 and Patch/1.0.0.5 without having to worry about putting version names in the title (as long as it's mentioned in the first line and table). --Enodoc (talk) 17:56, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
Copy of Most Recent Patch at Top[edit]
Is it really necessary to have a copy of the most recent patch notes at the top of the page? Because this past update (v2.3.5) had a ridiculously long set of patch notes, and with a list this long, people might not realize that there's a Patch History box hidden at the bottom. I think that having just the boxes that are currently buried at the bottom is sufficient, and if people want to actually read the patch notes then they can click on the appropriate link in the box. - I kind of agree. Transcluding the most recent PC patch notes on the main page seems like a good idea in theory, but even when it's not horribly outdated the notes are usually either excessively long or irrelevant incrementals. —Legoless (talk) 10:52, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

- Coming here from the mobile PS4 page I was substantially confused (the desktop version at least brings me to the closed patch note section). IF it is really prefered to have the patch note, wouldnt it be better to have the chapter with those (closed) tables first? I also think it might be good to have a short explanation of the numbering system and/or a clear denomination of the system the patch is for in the respective release note chapter header / page (e.g., PC Version x.x.x instead of Version x.x.x).

- Yeah, it's also a bit unfair that the only patch we have in full on the page is a PC patch, meaning you have to click through for the console notes anyway. I think just the patch history would be sufficient, unless we transclude all the most recent patches (one for each platform) underneath the list. --Enodoc (talk) 10:27, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

(←) Whoever had the idea of moving the Patch History to the top was brilliant! So simple, but it looks so much better! We could actually put the other patch notes underneath it now. I think I shall do that in few days from this message unless anyone else objects. --F-Lambda (talk) 00:05, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- Might end up a bit large if major patches ever end up in sync, but it looks fine for now. —Legoless (talk) 22:13, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
Standardized Patch Notes Format?[edit]
Whoever put the incomplete template on this page says patch notes need to be standardized, so...what should the standard format be? As far as I can tell, the format generally follows the format used on the official forums, and the biggest problem I see is inconsistent headers (all-caps vs not). --FioFioFio (talk) 00:04, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

- AgShield added the standardisation bit, but he's not around at the moment. If you can't find a particular standard to follow, feel free to set one yourself, if you're planning to work on this. Best place to start is to have a look through the 2.x notes, as I think that was when people were most active in adding them, to see if there are common features throughout that could be considered 'standard'. --Enodoc (talk) 14:37, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

- I'm sorry for necroposting. Back then, I was referring to the inconsistency of the formatting of major updates in particular - e.g. Imperial City (Update 7), Update 7: Imperial City, or just Imperial City; all 3 formats are currently being used. Which one should be used? AgShield (talk) 17:54, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

- Current usage is correct, except for Shadows of the Hist, which should be the other way around. Between Tamriel Unlimited and One Tamriel, update numbers were not in common use; from Homestead onwards, they've been in sporadic use, with the Update taking the secondary slot as of Morrowind, so we could reverse everything from Morrowind onwards. --Enodoc (talk) 10:10, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Big update patches[edit]
For PS4 the big patches update 10-18 (except Homestead) were/are missing. Most of the text is shared between the three architectures, so I tried for update 10 (Patch 1.14) the same method used from update 19 on: have the bulk of the update on a single page and transclude it from the other pages. In this case it meant merging XBox/PC first. Before I change the XBox/PC to transclude the shared page, I want to compare how the results differ from the current page more closely tomorrow and weed out anything that shows up. Anyway this is meant as a test to see if this is a viable method to get us the missing PS4 patches, and intend to do them the same way unless something serious crops up or there are real concerns about this approach. --Alfwyn (talk) 02:34, 26 February 2020 (GMT)
- Well, it has been a while. I no longer think that merging old updates is such a good idea. Since the console patch notes have less differences among them, the missing ps4 ones can probably transcluded from the xbox patch notes. I'm currently looking into a way to compare them for differences (basically a wget, xmllint to get the actual patch text from the posts, then a diff). --Alfwyn (talk) 11:31, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
Full list of patch notes[edit]
I'm working on compiling all the patch notes into a single document and plan to publish it on GameFAQs. The estimated size of it all is about 8mb (8,000,000 characters) and I'm wondering if we want a page like that here. Most of the patch pages only have a short description and a link to a forum post (with the link even being incorrect in some cases, ie. v7.3.3), and though it has no priority whatsoever it should probably get a revamp sooner or later.
I'll link to the published document when I finish compiling it. Cheers. - Humanish (talk) 13:43, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- We have most of them up to around 6.0.0, we just need to add in the last few years. --Enodoc (talk) 13:44, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
