Zyrcifel is the self-proclaimed "Prince of Mathness" and servant of Sheogorath who can be encountered around Solstice. He will be following Cintuudaer around after the High Elf mispronounced a certain word during a summoning ritual.

To help Cintuudaer, you will need to answer some fiendish mathematical questions.

Dialogue[edit]

You can encounter him following after Cintuudaer along the roads:

Zyrcifel: "Stand firm wretched mage and answer my questions quadratic!"
Cintuudaer: "It has been two days! Torment me no longer, you sorry excuse for a Daedric Prince!"

Speaking with him before Cintuudaer:

"Flee, mortal. You are not the focus of my mathematical curse."

When you talk with Cintuudaer to learn about the situation, he will ask you to distract Zyrcifel by answering his math questions while he performs a banishing ritual.

Approach the Prince and challenge him:

"Yet another mortal stands before the Prince of Mathness. Do you believe yourself versed in matters mathematical? Step forward and face me!"
Prince of Mathness, I will face your fiendish equations!
"Already you show fire twice as bright as that sniveling mage. I welcome you, challenger! First question. I stand before a charred tree and pluck twelve apples from its burning branches. I discard fourteen.
How many apples do I have?"
Negative two apples.
"Correct! Next question. A scrib walks seven thousand steps in a day. If it takes two and a half days to walk from the Bog of Blissful Delusion to my home, how many steps will the scrib take to reach me?"
Seventeen thousand and five hundred steps.
"Correct! Last question, the Mad God sells you a pendant for forty-nine gold. He cackles when the sale is complete, as you did not realize the savings you just received! The pendant was discounted by thirty percent!
What was its original price?"
Seventy gold.
"(?)"
Sixty-five gold.
"(?)"
I'm leaving now.
"(?)"
Sixteen thousand and three hundred steps.
"(?)"
[Intimidate]I'm done with your games. It's time you returned to Oblivion!
"(?)"
It's impossible to discard more apples than you had.
"Whether it is possible or not isn't the question, cur! How many apples do I have?" [verification needed — see talk page]
(?)
I'm not playing these games with you.
"(?)"

You will need to speak with Zyrcifel and correctly answer his math questions or find some other way for him to leave. If you get one of the questions wrong, the following happens:

Zyrcifel: "You tried to banish me? Did you really think it would be that easy? Our game has only just begun!"
Cintuudaer: "No, no, please! Leave me be you vile, equation-spewing shade!"
<Cintuudaer runs away.>

If you successfully distract Zyrcifel so Cintuudaer can complete the banishing ritual:

Cintuudaer: "I banish you to the Shivering Isles! Begone, Prince of Mathness, begone!"
<Zyrcifel clutches at his head.>
Zyrcifel: "It was a pleasure, dear mage! Back to the Shivering Isles I go!"
<Zyrcifel disappears.>
Cintuudaer: "Thank you, stranger. Next time, I will endeavor not to bite my tongue when communing with Daedric entities."
<Cintuudaer leaves.>
