The following is a list of quests that constitute the main questline:

Although otherwise unrelated to the rest of the questline, the game's various other tutorial quests were also technically included as part of the Main Quest:

The Main Quest is considered the first story arc of the game, having been followed by the Year One and Daedric War-related content releases.

Notes[edit]

  • Prior to the One Tamriel update, the main quest was gated by character level, with each successive 5 levels unlocking the next section of the main quest, from The Harborage at Level 5 to Shadow of Sancre Tor at Level 40.
    • Council of the Five Companions was originally unlocked at Level 45, but was dropped to Level 40 just after launch.
    • God of Schemes was originally unlocked at Level 50, but was dropped to Level 45 just after launch.
    • Messages Across Tamriel and The Weight of Three Crowns, allowing the invasion of Coldharbour, become available once either Council of the Five Companions has been completed or once the final quest in the Alliance Storyline has been completed. Prior to One Tamriel, it required both of the above quest stories to be complete, rather than just one of them.
      • This also means that, if you start Messages Across Tamriel and the invasion of Coldharbour by completing Council of the Five Companions, then complete the Coldharbour story, you can do God of Schemes, reclaim your soul, and start Cadwell's Silver and Cadwell's Gold without ever completing your own home alliance's storyline. (This does not work in reverse; i.e. you can't start God of Schemes by only completing your home alliance storyline and the Coldharbour zone.)
      • Completing one of the other alliance storylines before completing either your home faction's storyline or Council of the Five Companions does not unlock Messages Across Tamriel. However you will be credited automatically with completion of Cadwell's Silver or Gold when you get to the appropriate point in the sequence.
