Quest-Related Events[edit]

Beneath the Stone[edit]

Arriving at Shor's Stone during Beneath the Stone, he will be standing near Vigrod Wraithbane, next to Tovisa.

If you completed the Eastmarch questline:

"Did I hear that right? The hero of Eastmarch? Well met, and good to have you with us!"

Otherwise if you already started the quest with Sage Tirora or you haven't been recognized as the hero of Eastmarch, he'll say:

"We're defending this town to the last warrior. If you're here to help, talk to Vigrod or Ree-Zish."

After the quest:

"You're through the barrier, yeah? Why are you wasting time talking to me? Get in there."

Unearthed[edit]

If you started the quest and haven't spoken to Foreman Gandis:

"Can't begin to make up for what the Reach bastards have done to my kin. They owe me for the blood paid today."

After Sinmur was unleashed, Vigrod can be overheard speaking with the Centurion outside the mine.

Storming the Hall[edit]

During the trek to Fallowstone Hall if you choose to accompany Vigrod, Centurion Gjakil will part ways with Vigrod to check up on Boulderfall outpost.

Centurion Gjakil:"I'm headed for Boulderfall outpost. Sinmur stomped in that direction."
Vigrod Wraithbane:"Kyne guard you, my friend. Good luck. I'll see you again soon."

Smoke on the Horizon[edit]

If you have not started the quest and when you approach him, he will be shouting at his troops:

"Watch your flank! Watch your flank!"

He will be the quest-giver if you completed Storming the Halls. He will recognize you and will inform you that Captain Jardirr's forces need to relief from the Reachmen assault at the pass:

"Blood for the Pact!"
Good to see you again, Centurion. What's happened here?
"Sinmur. The giant led the Reachmen from Shor's Stone. I arrived just in time to see the Watch Captain throw herself into the fray. I need to restore order here. Can we press you into service again?"
Aye.
"Your first priority: get pressure off of the troops. Help out the soldiers on the front lines, as best you can. Then locate Captain Jardirr. We can't lose another capable officer."
I'm on it.

Otherwise if you started the quest through Scout Claurth:

"Blood for the Pact!"
Good to see you again, Centurion. What's happened here?
"Sinmur. The giant led the Reachmen from Shor's Stone. Arrived just in time to see the Watch Captain throw herself into the fray. I need to restore order here. Can we press you into service again?"
Aye.
"Your first priority: get pressure off the troops. Get out there and put steel or spell to those Reachmen bastards. We need to push them back and regroup."
What then?
"Locate Captain Jardirr. The troops might have an idea where she's gotten to. We can't lose another capable officer."
Into the breach!

After the quest begins, you can speak with him further. You can also ask him for assistance against the Lurchers.

"If Jardirr lives, she'll be up for a commendation. If she dies, I'll box her ears in Sovngarde!"
What is this place?
"A pass cuts through the hills here, straight into the Smokefrost Peaks. Normally comes out just north of Riften. When a giant hasn't collapsed the hillside."
Sinmur collapsed the pass?
"Aye. No easy way to get through here, send word to Riften. With what's happened over at Fort Greenwall, we're on our own. Hmm. We'll have to get the fires lit."
Fires?/You mentioned fires?
"Aye. There's a tower on the hill near here. Great big horker of a bonfire set up, with wood treated all special. Light that fire and the whole Rift will see the smoke. Put everyone on alert."
What happened at Fort Greenwall?
"Bandits, it sounds like. I'm not sure. Only a few of our runners are getting through. I don't know if they're caught up in combat, or …."
[Persuade] Lots of Lurchers out there.
"Well, Murmurs-to-Trees has been working on a ward to use against them. He's just down the stairs, go ask him about it."
Thanks. I'll do that.

After saving five Pact soldiers and before speaking to the Captain:

"Holed up in a cave. Good to hear she's still up and kicking!"

After speaking with the Captain and before lighting the signal fire:

"Sounds like you have orders from another ranking officer, my friend. Get going."

After lighting the fire and before you speak to Jardirr, he will be speaking to Thorned Blossom:

"Smoke fills the sky! From Nimalten to Shor's Stone, the people of the Rift know there's danger coming. Well done, my friend."

After the quest, he will mention about his family's wellbeing:

"Shor's, Boulderfall. Hard fighting on familiar ground. I have family here in the Rift, did I ever mention? Just hope they're staying safe."

Dangerous Union[edit]

If this is the first time meeting the centurion:

"Well met, traveler. Good to have another strong arm in the field."

At the Pact encampment, he welcomes you to Vernim Woods.

"Welcome to the fight, my friend. I hope the road from Shor's Stone wasn't a long one."

Gift of the Worm[edit]

You can speak with him to hear his thoughts on the unholy alliance.

"I suppose it makes sense. At their core the Reachmen and the Worms both venerate the Daedra.
Just never figured they'd do anything like this …."

After the quest, he commends you for your efforts.

"Dirty work out there. Glad we have you on our side."

Through the Shroud[edit]

He comments on your appearance after you drink from the Gray Jar.

"Are you sick? You seem to have lost a lot of weight."

To Nimalten[edit]

He needs you to warn the settlements in the west of the Worm Cult presence. You will need to find Thane Fjora in Nimalten:

"Glad you made it out, Arrow. I'll make sure Dajaheel and Belron go up on the rolls in Mournhold. It's mad to think of all those people. Reduced to ink on parchment."
What's the next move, Centurion?
"We need to warn the settlements west of here. You put a stop to Stral and the Reachmen, but the Worms are a far bigger menace."
Where should I start?
"Nimalten. Thane Fjora is a brave, intelligent woman. And she has the resources to protect the rest of the Ragged Hills. Grab a guardsman when you reach the town. They'll direct you where you need to go."
Consider it done, Centurion.

You can ask him of what he will do next:

"Fjora's apparently a dynamo on the battlefield. I've heard stories you wouldn't believe."
What will you do now, Centurion?
"Death, Reachmen, now the Worms. I need to check on my family. We have a little farm down south. My wife's father started it, actually.
Stop by and say hello, if you get the chance. Tell her I sent you. Woman makes the most amazing sweet rolls."

Soul Harvest[edit]

If you are also completing Soul Harvest during The Farmer's Champion, you can release the soul of Pacta whose geode is right next to Gjakil. Pacta will exchange her last words to Gjakil:

Centurion Gjakil: "Pacta? Is that you?"
Pacta: "Tell my family … I love them."

The Farmer's Champion[edit]

Gjakil, injured

You will find Gjakil injured north of the farm. He'll ask you to find his daughters:

If you met him before:

"My friend! I didn't think I'd see you again so soon. Look, I need to see to this wound. I know I can trust you.
Will you go after my girls?"

Otherwise if this is your first meeting:

"Great timing, traveler. I won't last long if I don't tend to this wound.
But…my girls are still out here. Will you look for them?"
I'll go after them, Gjakil. Don't worry.
"I'll catch up as soon as I can. Kyne watch over you."

He heads back towards the farm to find his wife and rest up a little bit. You can find him later on the western riverbank, where's he's just killed a mammoth. After receiving a warning from Grestine of the impending giant attack, he believes to end the assault, the giant chieftain will need to be defeated in a duel, but he is too injured to fight. You will act in his stead to end this conflict with the giants:

"This great furry horker didn't go down easily.
All I could think of were my girls."
Gretsine said the giants are going to attack again.
"They've spent blood in defense of their land. They have to finish what they've started.
I … I'm going to challenge their chieftain. It's the only way."
What will that accomplish?
"Clan bosses lead organized attacks. Cut off the head, and the ice wraith dies. You get me?"
You're injured, Gjakil. I should challenge the chieftain.
"You would defend us? With your life? You remind me of Treva himself. The old farm-thane never backed down from a fight.
Here, follow me. I'll show you the way."
I'm right behind you.

Follow Gjakil up the hill, towards the giant's camp.

Centurion Gjakil: "We need to get the chieftain's attention. That drum! In the treasure pile."

You have the option to speak with him before beating the drum to summon the giant chieftain. You can persuade him to give you his father-in-law's mammoth horn, an ancient, single-use item which can stun mammoths.

"They keep trophies every time they kill an invader. That drum in the treasure pile should get the chieftain's attention."
[Persuade]Do you have anything to help against the giant?
"Now that you mention it, there's Treva's Mammoth Horn! It's old and one use might shatter it, but it'll stop a mammoth in its tracks!
Here. Use it if you have to. I don't care if it breaks, so long as you come out alive."
I'll use it if I need to.

After you kill the chieftain and his mammoth, he will be grateful for your help and welcome you as part of his family:

"Ysmir's beard! You've done it."
Your family is safe, Gjakil.
"It's a hard life out here in the White. Somewhere off in Sovngarde, Treva's smiling down at us.
You're a part of the clan now. Fight well!"

After the quest:

"Your kindness today … I can't repay it. All I can offer you is my thanks and the love of my family."
