Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Stumps[edit]
Suriel can be found southeast along the river from Alten Corimont, just east of Camp Crystal Abattoir. Speak to her. She's lost and afraid, and explains that she hid her valuables earlier out of fear after seeing bandits along the side of the road. She asks you to help her find her stuff. She hid her valuables in a tree stump somewhere in the swamp.
Search the area for four tree stumps; quest markers will appear as you approach them. Search each, and retrieve the items inside. You need to find three items, and each stump will contain one or two as well as some Swamp Mud. The three items needed are an Engraved Locket, Jewelry Box, and Ornate Ceremonial Dagger. Once you collect all three, Suriel will run away and you will need to talk to her. She sounds frantic, talking about years of her life being wasted, but not elaborating. You waste enough time asking questions for someone to appear in the distance and cause her to panic.
Follow her to a nearby boat, and she will call out for you to help her push it into the water. Approach her, and a Dunmer named Aldyna will walk up to the two of you. Speak to each of them in sequence. Apparently, Suriel is a runaway slave who belongs to Aldyna. You can let Aldyna take Suriel back, give Suriel the money to buy her freedom, or Intimidate Aldyna into letting Suriel go free.
Freeing Suriel by Force[edit]
If you speak to Aldyna and intimidate her, you can force her to let Suriel walk free without restitution. Allowing Aldyna to look at what Suriel stole and telling Aldyna that you don't work with slavers will both lead to this option.
- [Intimidate]Take your trinkets. Suriel stays.
- "She's my property, as surely as that locket is. But if you're determined to free her, there's nothing I can do about it. You're the one who's armed here, after all."
- Good. Suriel, you are free to go.
- "I'll take those trinkets, if you please. You've robbed me enough for one day.
I thank the Three my father didn't live to see this. You should thank them as well"
If you threatened Aldyna, she'll sternly tell Suriel that she won't be so personable the next time they meet. You'll need to talk to Suriel to end the quest.
Freeing Suriel with Money[edit]
If you speak with Suriel, you can give her some gold to buy her freedom. No matter which of the first options you pick on the dialogue tree, Suriel will blow up on you for being associated with the Pact. Despite this, you can offer to allow her to buy her freedom by giving her a tidy sum. She apologizes for the outburst and throws the money at Aldyna.
- This should be enough to buy your freedom. [Leveled gold]
- "I … I don't know how to thank you. And I'm so sorry I insulted you.
Truly, I'll never forget your kindness!""- You'd best get going. I'll make sure she doesn't follow.
- "I can use Aldyna's own belongings to buy my freedom. Freedom … I can hardly believe it!
Farewell, my friend. I hope we see each other again."
Suriel runs off after paying Aldyna. You will need to speak with Aldyna to end the quest if you let Suriel buy her freedom.
Recapturing Suriel[edit]
However, you can also allow Aldyna to take back her stolen trinkets and Suriel by telling either of them that this is none of your business or that this is between the two of them.
- This is none of my business. Here, take your things. I'll be on my way.
- "Thank you again for returning Suriel. I've run into some unsavory types that would have … taken advantage of the situation."
- It's not really my business.
- "I'm fortunate you were the one to find her. She may not know it yet, but Suriel's lucky to be alive.
I'll gather what little belongings we have and head to Mournhold. I hope we meet again, friend."
You will need to speak with Aldyna to end the quest if you turned Suriel over.

Suriel was by the boat she spoke of previously, but it seems the owner of the boat is here as well. I'll need to talk to both Suriel and the Dark Elf to decide what to do next.

I think I've "convinced" Aldyna to forget about her former slave. I should speak with Suriel before she leaves.

- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
