Trap Door[edit]

--- Although the dungeon is quite impressive, you can (and I recomend not) skip the whole thing if you look for another entrance, a trap door in the bushes to the left of the obvious one, opposite wall of where you enter the tower before going to "old wodden door to arkved's tower". I learned this 'cause this is the exit if you do it correctly. ---~xXJesterXx

---GZUS: Actualy, the trap door is not there, I have searched my self before entering the tower and it wasn't there at all, only by using the trap door in Arkved's room will the trap door spawn.

in the lake at the shrine, there is a chest with minor loot

No Dialogue.[edit]

When I offered the Black Soulgems, I emidiatly got the quest, without the dialog of the Deadra(which of course is one of the coolest things of the Deadric quests) I think it had to do with Aymar Douar not being at the shrine. Since I had recruited him with Toasters. Altough I dismissed him for this particular quest, it didn't seem to work. So I figured he must be át the shrine before the dialogue cans tart. Can anyone confirm this?-Artfact

If you kill Arkved[edit]

Has anybody killed Arkved, then gone back to Vaermina? Does she still say he will "live out the rest of his days in nightmare"? I don't remember seeing anything about that when I did the various Daedric Quest lines, but it could be that any changes to the lines were made by some non-obvious method. I also no longer have the editor installed, so I can't check. :) --Robin Hood 16:19, 9 February 2008 (EST)

Yup. The dialogue is exactly the same. –RpehTCE 06:03, 10 February 2008 (EST)

Black Soul Gem[edit]

(Discussion moved to Oblivion talk:Black Soul Gem. Information is relevant for anyone looking for a soul gem, not just people on Vaermina's quest)

Just wondering...[edit]

...what happens if you use the Skull of Corruption on Arkved? Nifhelton 09:19, 29 June 2008 (EDT)

I presume that it would just create a clone of him as normal, though Arkved wouldn't be able to fight back.Bambobo 10:56, 29 June 2008 (EDT)

Very old entry but just in case someone stumbles upon this talk page and is curious...I returned to a standing-Arkved and used the Skull on him. A clone is created that is fully capable of defending itself, summoned a scamp to deal with the original. The original DOES NOTHING in retaliation.

He throws the typical Mage insults towards his original body, through further use he is able to summon a Fire Atronach as well to his aide. He seems to use a spell on himself directly after, which one I can't confirm...though his page mentions his spell pack so I'm assuming someone has cloned him before (no way I'm the first to try it, I know that much).

Just posting this for anyone curious =) also I used it on my follower, Viranus and after he was rendered unconscious...I couldn't make a clone of him at that point. Yet Arkved is technically unconscious as well, yet it is possible to clone him ;>_> go figure.

Note: After I obtain a Range Control spell, I'm going to try and make Arkved's clone my minion (via Perma-Clone glitch). See what I learn from him as he follows me around. TVthePunisher 05:54, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Where's the Walkthrough?[edit]

The detailed walkthrough, quite simply, sucks. It says nothing about the complexity of the fort's interior or about the zapping stones that take away half your health in one hit. There's nothing telling you how to get to the orb...I'm currently in the middle of doing it and I'm not much of a writer. But just pointing this out...68.205.103.233 20:48, 11 September 2008 (EDT)

There are quest arrows you could follow. They lead you to exactly where you need to be. But, if you don't want to use those, check out Oblivion:Arkved's Tower. It's the page for the actual tower itself. Darkle 21:45, 11 September 2008 (EDT)

Has anyone got this message?[edit]

After completing the quest, I got this message, under a seperate (immediately finished) quest "Daedric Intervention":

"By gaining Vaernima's favor, I now have the power to call upon the Daedric Princes to teleport me to safety, for a price of course."

I don't seem to have gained any greater powers. No idea what it does. Anyone have an idea? Could it have to do with the shivering isles? I just finished that questline before doing this one. --Krebdj 19:39, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

It must come from a mod. No such phrase in the standard game. –rpehTCE 19:43, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Makes sense. Couldn't find the phrase with a google search, oddly. COBL and Supreme Magicka are the biggest ones I use in case any one else sees the same thing and wonders. --Krebdj 21:04, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

I believe it's from Supreme Magicka. When you complete any of the Daedra Prince quests, you get that update and a lesser (I think) power added to your spell list. If you cast it, you are teleported to the nearest daedric shrine, but lose some health. --Gaebrial 06:39, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Count Hassildor?[edit]

Weirdest thing that has happened to me in the game so far, after going through Arkved's dungeon - right when I'm in his room, trying to decide if I would get anything or lose anything for killing him, Count Hassildor came walking in through the door I entered from, spoke to me briefly, then exited out the a different door. I'm running the original release of Oblivion off an original ps3, no mods, no plug ins, no DLC, no game of the year edition. Anyone else have this happen? — Unsigned comment by 97.115.32.175 (talk) on 11 August 2009

Count Hassildor is involved in multiple quests. Could you tell us what he said to you, so we can identify which quest was involved? --Timenn-<talk> 09:05, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Filled Colossal Black Soul Gen[edit]

  • If you've completed the mage's guild quest line, Vaermina accepts the Filled Colossal Black Soul Gen as a substitute for a regular one. This may require the Unofficial Oblivion Patch however. — Unsigned comment by 72.19.75.233 (talk) on 9 December 2009
It certainly must have been changed in a mod. The normal game does not count (any) Colossal Black Soul Gem as a valid offering. --Timenn-<talk> 13:27, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Then shouldnt this be removed from the page? Arny 09:28, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

It was removed and then re-added. Timenn is quite correct: the script in question (DAVaerminaStatueScript) checks for:
  • player.getitemcount BlackSoulGem, and
  • player.getitemcount BlackSoulGemFilled
It doesn't check for MG17MiscBlackSoulGemFilled, which is the code for the colossal gem. rpeh •TCE 09:52, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Gender ???[edit]

I have got to ask , is Vaermina a male or female because one of her followers said Lord Vaermina , and then he said we "her". Any one else having problems with that ? JackTurbo95 13:34, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

It looks like Vaermina is female. In Myths of Sheogorath we have "dreams are the domain of Vaermina, may She grant us Restful Sleep", and in 16 Accords of Madness, v. IX there's "Vaernima looked down with pride at this disciple of hers". There's also the dialogue "Your business with Vaermina is complete. Tremble should she visit you in your dreams." and "Here we worship Vaermina, praying for her to grant us true visions." The only bit of contrary dialogue is "Who are you, who dares to walk in the House of Shadow? What business do you have with the Lord Vaermina?", which is probably to do with the old "All daedra are referred to as Princes" debate.
Although we have proof that they're sometimes called Princesses, it seems they're always called "Daedra Lords" and never "Daedra Ladies". That's my guess, anyway. rpeh •TCE 13:49, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
From what I know, no Daedra Lord has a gender. People just refer to them that way. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 13:59, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

But isn't Azura a "female" ? And isn't there one prince who can be either ? — Unsigned comment by JackTurbo95 (talkcontribs) on 26 February 2011

See this page, and the discussions here and here. There really doesn't appear to be any clear answer on this. rpeh •TCE 14:45, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

I always find it funny that the are Daedric Princes even though they may look like females. But we might never know. JackTurbo95 10:05, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Daedric Princes have no gender, and take whichever leaves their fancy particularly tickled. Some swap, like Boethiah. Others are constant, like Azura. Some... some don't have one or much of one. like Hermaeus Mora. Or maybe he's all gender. Some weird tentacle wing-wongs thing going on.

Moved Notes[edit]

This article needed pruning sooo....

  • Normally, you cannot use the Colossal Black Soul Gem from Confront the King to fulfill Vaermina's requirements, however if you've installed the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, it will work.
  • You cannot wait in the first zone of Arkved's Tower as being there is considered trespassing.
  • Killing Arkved will not alert the Dark Brotherhood.
  • If you sleep next to Arkved when he is still unconscious, He will stand up. However he will still be unconscious, and you wont be able to interact with him. (Xbox 360)
  • "Palla, v1" is next to the orb. It is an Illusion skill book.

Normally UOP features are notable but I don't think that the developers intended for this to happen, so their is no reason to mention it here. The trespassing note isn't really useful, so I moved it here. The note on killing Arkved not alerting the Dark Brotherhood isn't notable as we should only list things that do happen, or things that should happen. This isn't really the case here as far as I am concerned. I have no clue how the fourth note happened as he should always be unconscious. Some weird one off it seems to me. Finally do we really need to mention the skill book? --AKB Talk Cont Mail 19:48, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Sleeping with Arkved needs verification, Skill Books are normally documented iirc.--Corevette789 22:06, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
The UOP changes the quest directly, and it should be noted on the wiki whether the devs 'wanted' the change or not. The waiting thing is on the place page, so that's ok. A skill book is important treasure, so it should be noted. The other two, I don't care. Legoless 22:21, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
I just went through the quest and slept next to Arkved, which didn't cause him to stand up. Oddly, though, when I returned from Vaermina (after completing the quest), Arkved was standing up in the bed. Weird and spooky - and almost seems intentional. I'll try and run a few more tests tomorrow, as I plan to rewrite the Arkved'sTower page anyway. --Krusty 22:28, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Explanation taken from the UOP page: Arkved should no longer stand up (while sleeping) if the player leaves ArkvedsTower07, goes through at least three other cells, then returns --Krusty 22:33, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
I'd be willing to allow the UOP notes to be re-added without argument as they do seem to be important on reflection. But I will argue about the importance of noting Palla being here, it would be more relevant on the place page I believe as it is not quest important. Nor is it unique to this location. Not that this would need to be added to Arkved's Tower as it is already mentioned there. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 23:45, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Akved standing up has nothing to do with the quest and should be moved to his own page with a UOP-tag and a bug note. Reason? If it is addressed by the UOP, then a lot of players are guaranteed to experience it, so we might as well mention it, or somebody else will. The skill book is on the place page, where it belongs. Then again, that piece of information could very easily be merged with our "detailed" walkthrough, as the Orb lies right next to the book. --Krusty 06:23, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

I leveled twice in manipulating his use as a punching bag and skill-leveler, sleeping once next to him did nothing...but the second time he was standing up, eyes wide open but still in the same state as when he was down. This is on the 360 version by the way, I assume you have to sleep multiple times and/or gain multiple levels to cause him to stand up that way. TVthePunisher 05:41, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Issues with Unnecessary Violence[edit]

This, along with the cheydinnhal recomendation and sheogorath quests have issues with the mod "Unnecessary Violence" because it changes all soul gems into something the vanilla quests do not recognise. The only solution I could tell you about is to disable the mod, start the quest, save then reenable it. — Unsigned comment by 96.8.241.26 (talk) at 01:05 on 3 September 2011 (GMT)

Mod conflicts don't belong on the article. You should bring it up with the author. --Legoless 00:28, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Possible to kill Arkved?[edit]

Curious...is it actually possible to kill Arkved? I remember whenever I tried interacting with him, I was told he was 'unconscious'. I tried to hit him, speak with him, tried to pick pocket him but was always told that he is unconscious, like essential NPC's. 24.87.104.28 17:57, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Yes, it is possible to kill him - but it doesn't really affect the quest. Kitkat TalkContribE-mail 18:05, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Arkved's Oasis Glitches[edit]

If you have over 100 in acrobatics, you can jump over and into the tower in Arkved's Oasis. There is nothing in the tower, but if you get to the bottom, you cannot enter the door which your map says should take you back to Arkved's Lost Halls, so you are stuck. You may notice the pillars in the tower do not actually reach the ground, and the staircase has no physical bottom.

Also, if you jump down the tower on the outside (and you again have over 100 acrobatics), you may jump off the surface of the lake of fire until you reach its end, in which case you will fall to the sea floor and may run indefinitely into the void of Arkved's Oasis. You may require potions to prevent death. 67.236.230.40 18:32, 24 May 2013 (GMT)Minnick

Voice Actress?[edit]

I've been curious as to who voices Vaermina. I think she sounds pretty similar in vocalization to Jocelyn Blue, a lesser-known voice actor who voiced Dr. Dala in Fallout: New Vegas. There's no source anywhere for who voices her and it is absolutely not the same as her Skyrim voice actor. — Unsigned comment by 76.25.67.173 (talk) at 02:55 on 26 July 2019 (UTC)

'Vaermina' Quest at Level 1?[edit]

Is there any way or bypass to activate this quest at Level 1? Rider4ever38 (talk) 10:23, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

No, the required level is 5. —Legoless (talk) 11:02, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
