Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
The way to start this quest is to find a Dragonborne ring on a dead knight in either Fatback Cave or Cracked Wood Cave. You'll get a journal entry about it; ask around, and you'll eventually be directed to Skingrad. Alain, however, will refuse to talk to you unless you get his reaction above 60.
Give him the ring, and he'll make you a knight and give you a quest - find his brother, Jim (also known as Goblin Jim). Jim is quite happy where he is and not very coherent, so your only recourse is to kill him. Alain is fine with that, though - he'll reward you with a new quest: to kill all the goblin shamans. There are seven tribes (see here for more details); once you've killed all seven, return to Alain. He'll promote you to Knight Errant and give you a ring, along with a new quest: recover all seven goblin staves.
Once you do that, he'll give you one final quest: Turn in goblin shields for 10 gold apiece. Once he's decided you've gotten enough, he'll promote you to Lord Commander, give you an amulet, and send you on your merry way.

Stage | Finishes Quest | Journal Entry |
10 | I have found a signet ring bearing a noble crest on a fallen Knight of the Dragonborne in Cracked Wood Cave. I should return it to Sir Alain Uruk in Skingrad. or |
|
15 | I have found a signet ring bearing a noble crest on a fallen Elite Knight of the Dragonborne in Cracked Wood Cave. I should return it to Sir Alain Uruk in Skingrad. or |
|
20 | Glarthir has, in his own imitable fashion, told me that the ring I found bears the crest of the Uruk family. Apparently, Sir Alain Uruk is the leader of the Knights of the Dragonborne, and he can be found here in Skingrad. or |
|
25 | I have returned the ring I found on his father's body to Sir Alain Uruk. or |
|
30 | Sir Alain Uruk asked me to help him find his brother, Jim.
31 | I have refused to help Sir Alain. If a noble Knight of the Dragonborne can't find his own brother, I wouldn't have much chance.
35 | I have agreed to help Sir Alain locate his brother, Jim. Apparently, he was kidnapped by goblins. Seems a strange thing for goblins to do - they usually just kill you.
36 | ||
40 | I have found Sir Alain's brother, Jim. It appears that he was a full-fledged member of the White Skin goblin tribe. or |
|
45 | When Sir Alain Uruk described his brother to me, I remembered the strange Breton man I encountered living among the White Skin goblin tribe. I fear that was Sir Alain's brother. I had better mention this to him. or |
|
50 | I have told Sir Alain Uruk of the demise of his brother Jim. I'm not sure whether he was upset or angry, but he made me a Knight of the Dragonborne. He asked for some time to grieve for his brother, but I guess he will soon have a noble task for me.
52 | The hunter Mirisa suggested that killing the shaman of a goblin tribe would effectively destroy that tribe. Maybe I could put that information to good use... or |
|
55 | Sir Alain Uruk has given me the task of ridding Cyrodiil of all of its goblin tribes. He gave me the names of the seven known tribes: the White Skin, the Bloody Hand, the Rock Biter, the Skull Breaker, the Dust Eater, the Three Feather, and the Sharp Tooth. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to give me the exact locations of their lairs. or |
|
60 | Sir Alain Uruk rewarded me for ridding Cyrodiil of the goblin threat. He made me a Knight Errant of the Dragonborne, and rewarded me with an enchanted ring. |
|
61 | Sir Alain has hinted that there is still more work to be done to rid Cyrodiil of the goblin menace. He mentioned that there are groups of goblins across Cyrodiil that are not affiliated with any tribe.
62 | I gave Sir Alain the totem staff that I recovered from a goblin lair, and he rewarded me with 500 gold. He will also reward me for any additional totems I recover bring him, as well as a bonus if I bring him seven totems. or |
|
63 | Sir Alain will pay me a bounty of 10 gold for every goblin shield I bring to him.
64 | I have killed a number of non-tribal goblin shamans. Perhaps this will be sufficient for Sir Alain. I should go and see him in Skingrad.
65 | Sir Alain Uruk rewarded me for my further efforts to wipe out the goblin menace. He made me a Knight Commander of the Dragonborne, and gave me a magnificent amulet.

- Notes
- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage zOOODragonborne stage
, wherestage
is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
