Jensine is a Nord pawnbroker and proprietor of Jensine's "Good as New" Merchandise in the Market District of the Imperial City. She is also the chairwoman of the Society of Concerned Merchants and is very outspoken against newcomer Thoronir's under-priced selection. Unfortunately, she's not nearly as outspoken when it comes to testifying against an Imperial Watch Captain who stole all the money from one of her customers. Jensine also sells the unique item, the Akaviri Warblade, a two-handed blade that damages fatigue, health, and magicka.
Jensine wears a blue collar shirt, coarse linens and a pair of sack cloth sandals. She is armed with an iron dagger and carries her shop key and a small amount of gold.
Like so many of her fellow merchants in the District, Jensine lives a life of hard work maintaining her store, leaving her very little spare time. She sleeps in the Private Quarters every night between midnight and 6am and always starts the day with a two-hour breakfast in the main trading room. At 8am, she unlocks the door and spends the next twelve hours offering her popular bartering services to customers. On all normal weekdays (Morndas to Fredas) she closes up shop at 8pm and spends the rest of the evening at The Feed Bag, chatting and dining with the other traders. On Loredas and Sundas, she adds four extra hours to her usual opening time and keeps the shop open until midnight.
Related Quests[edit]
- Unfriendly Competition: A newly opened shop run by Thoronir is selling goods below cost, causing big problems for the other merchants.
- Imperial Corruption: One of the Imperial Guard captains in the Imperial City is corrupt.
Dialogue[edit]
When you meet her for the first time, she will greet you with:
- "Feel free to browse, friend. It's nice to see a new shopper. I was afraid I lost any hope of new business ever since Thoronir opened up."
- Imperial City
- "Everyone comes to the Big City to buy and sell. Why not? More stores, better selection, better prices."
She takes her leave with:
- "Fare thee well."
Speaking to her again will net you:
- "Feel free to browse, friend."
Should you intercept her while outside her store, she will instead say:
- "Good day to you."
Rumors[edit]
Jensine and her store have a good reputation in town for expediency and fairness, as you will residents say:
- "I needed some cash, so I went to see Jensine."
- "If you need money fast, try Jensine's. You can sell almost anything there."
To which others will reply:
- "She gives good prices for your old equipment."
- "It's good to know that there's a pawnbroker around."
The city's denizens may also ask each other:
- "Ever needed cash in a hurry? You should try Jensine's."
- "Have you looked around Jensine's? It's amazing what people will get rid of."
And reply:
- "One man's trash soon becomes another man's trash, I suppose."
- "Jensine's isn't bad, especially if you need to make a quick couple of septims."
Quest-Related Dialogue[edit]
Unfriendly Competition[edit]
Jensine is not the only concerned merchant in town, as her fellow traders will point you in her direction when asked about Thoronir:
- Claudette Perrick: "That guy is going to run me out of business soon. His prices are so low, I don't know how he does it. I think he's up to something. If you're interested, you should head over to Jensine's 'Good as New' Merchandise. She heads up a committee that is trying to investigate him."
- Ogier Georick: "I cringe whenever that name is mentioned. His inventory has to be stolen or something, because his prices are so low, they're below my cost. At this rate, I don't know if I can keep my doors open. All the people are spending their money there. Bah. If you want to help out some poor merchants, head on over to Jensine's "Good as New" Merchandise. She'll fill you in with the details."
- Tertullian Verus: "He is dirty. Plain and simple. I don't trust him at all. Won't even come to merchant meetings and sets his prices so low, he undercuts everyone. If you want to give me a hand, go speak with Jensine at her Good as New Merchandise store. She can clue you in and maybe offer some coin."
If you ask them again, they will simply repeat:
- Thoronir
- "Talk to Jensine. She can help you better than I can."
- "Jensine is the lady you want to speak with about Thoronir."
- "Jensine is running the show. She will get him but good."
If you ask her about her competitor, her response will depend on whether you spoke to any of her fellow merchants or not:
- Thoronir
- "So, Claudette/Ogier/Tertullian sent you, eh? Well then, s/he usually sizes up people well, so you may be just what we're looking for."
- "I think you may be just the kind of person we're looking for. Perhaps you can assist us with a problem we're having here in the Market District."
- Maybe later.
- "Oh, very well. If you change your mind, let me know. It could prove quite lucrative for both of us."
However, if you ask her to carry on, she will fill you in:
-
- Start from the beginning.
- "I'm the chairperson for the Society of Concerned Merchants. We formed this group a while back to keep a nice fair economic balance in town. Not every store is a member, but we're slowly trying to convince them to join. Everything was fine until Thoronir opened his shop nearby. Selling all sorts of merchandise, he undercuts prices like you wouldn't believe. He doesn't always sell what we sell, but it is still a problem. People who buy tend to want to spend their money there. That leaves none for us. It's getting so bad, a few of us may have to close up shop. He outright refuses to join the Society or even discuss the matter. We are convinced he is up to no good. What we need is for you to case his establishment, and figure out where he gets his inventory. Find some proof of his wrongdoing, and let us know. We cannot do it ourselves, as he recognizes all of us. The job pays a fair bounty in gold when he is brought to justice."
- Inventory
- "His inventory must be stolen. It has to be. He prices less than it costs to make some of those things. Go see for yourself."
Speaking to her now will have her say:
- "Good to see you again."
- "Any news about that certain task we discussed?"
- Thoronir
- "I hope you're more successful uncovering his scheme than we've been."
She ends the conversation with:
- "Thanks again for your help, we had no other place to turn."
After you first speak to Thoronir and he plays dumb, she will comment:
- Thoronir
- "I told you he wouldn't cooperate. Your best bet is to shadow him and see where he goes."
If you've overheard Thoronir and Agarmir she will instead caution you:
- Thoronir
- "Good, you have found his source. Now, you must find where his source gets the materials if we are to truly bring this crime to justice. Be careful, there is no telling what this "Agarmir" is up to."
Once you've found his house, she will reveal she's also been doing some investigations of her own:
- Thoronir
- "I've checked my sources, and no one knows this "Agarmir"; he's probably using a false name."
Approaching her after you've entered Agarmir's basement but without taking the Macabre Manifest will have her say:
- "Any new information come to light?"
- Taken from the Dead
- "Without any solid evidence to back that accusation up, you don't have cause to assume that is where Agarmir gets his merchandise."
When exiting conversation she will warn you:
- "Make sure you have proof before you accuse anyone of a terrible crime like grave robbing."
With the manifest in your possession, however, she will be convinced:
- Thoronir
- "Thoronir better pray he had no knowledge of Agarmir's grave robbing, or the Watch will have his head."
- Taken from the Dead
- "By the Divines... I can't believe this! They would dare defile the dead to make a profit? The City Watch will hear of this. You should take this book to Thoronir. Confronted with this, he may just see things differently."
She will plead with you as soon as you leave:
- "Bring that book immediately to Thoronir."
Once you've convinced Thoronir to help you, she will comment:
- Thoronir
- "Now that you have the manifest, you'll need one more piece of evidence that proves the theory that links Agarmir directly to the crime. Look for something in his possession that can be linked to his crimes, and we will have him. Be ever vigilant. The crime of grave robbing is punishable only by death, so Agarmir is likely to do anything to keep his crimes secret."
- Inventory
- "To think, all of those items on Thoronir's shelves were only recently buried. Such blasphemy."
- Taken from the Dead
- "Words... fail me. I knew that Thoronir obtained his goods through dark dealings, but I never would have imagined this. As sickened as I am, I will not tell the City Watch until you have confirmed this theory and brought us the proof we need."
Her disbelief continues even while bidding you farewell:
- "I am still aghast. To think that someone would stoop so low..."
As soon as you've defeated Agarmir and picked up his shovel, approaching her will have her say:
- "You seem in good spirits... do you have good news?"
- Thoronir
- "Speak to Thoronir first. Although I am happy you were able to recover some solid evidence, he deserves to see it as well."
As you depart she will say:
- "Make sure you show that shovel to Thoronir. It is the final bit of proof we need to possibly clear his name."
After you have spoken to Thoronir, she will greet you with:
- "I have been anxiously awaiting your return."
If you immediately exit conversation she will be confused:
- "Didn't you have some things to give me?"
Should you instead update her she will say:
- Thoronir
- "Well done! This shovel will certainly confirm Agarmir's crimes. Along with the manifest, it should prove useful to the City Watch. In your absence, Thoronir visited and we spoke at length about his role in this scheme. I believe him when he says he didn't know Agarmir's sources. He told me of his intentions to donate all of the money and inventory to the local temple. He also agreed to buy and sell merchandise at fair prices. Last but not least, he's officially joined the Society. I am taken aback by his honest intentions. In return, the Society has decided not to press charges. His name will be absconded from the records of this crime. Now, I'm sure you are waiting to hear about your reward. The Society thanks you for everything you have done. Please, take this gold. Many thanks, on behalf of all of us."
- Inventory
- "I am pleased that Thoronir has decided to donate his inventory to the temple. At least he is trying to make amends."
- Taken from the Dead
- "The very thought of what Agarmir was doing sickens me. I hope those poor souls rest in peace now that this is over."
From now on, she will greet you with:
- "It is a privilege to see you again."
- "See anything you like?"
- Thoronir
- "I'm mature enough to admit I was mistaken about Thoronir. He's a welcome member of our group in the Market District."
She now bids you farewell with either:
- "Farewell. May the roads carry you safely in your journeys."
- "It's been a pleasure doing business with you."
Imperial Corruption[edit]
During the Imperial Corruption quest, you will have to seek out Jensine once again, as she is the only witness to Audens Avidius' crime against Ruslan and Luronk gro-Glurzog. Luronk and Ruslan will tell you about the deed:
- Corrupt Imperial Watchman
- "He's shaken down most of the shopkeepers in the Market District. They're all too afraid of him to do anything. Jensine wouldn't even talk about it."
- "Luronk and I were shopping at Jensine's when he accused us of stealing. Even Jensine said we were innocent, but he didn't care."
- Why didn't Jensine report him?
- "He's shaken down most of the shopkeepers in the Market District. They're all too afraid of him to do anything. Jensine wouldn't even talk about it."
He is right, because when you approach Jensine and her disposition is below 70, she will say:
- Corrupt Imperial Watchman
- "Who told you that?"
- Two of your customers told me.
- "Ruslan and Luronk. Those idiots don't know when to stay quiet. Look, I'm not telling you anything, stranger. I don't trust you."
- Just a guess. Aren't they all?
- "I don't know what you're talking about. Get out of my shop."
Luckily, there are ways to raise her disposition, at which point she will say:
- Corrupt Imperial Watchman
- "I guess I can trust you. It's that bastard Audens Avidius. He's in here every month taking my wares without paying for them. What can I do? He's a Captain of the Imperial Watch. Only another Watch Captain can arrest him. Fat chance of that happening."
- Testify against Audens Avidius
- "You want me to publically [sic] accuse Audens Avidius of corruption? I'd sooner swim naked in a pool filled with slaughterfish and mudcrabs!"
When leaving conversation she will randomly reiterate:
- "Let's keep my problem with Audens just between you and I."
- "If you tell anyone I said anything bad about Audens, I'll deny it."
Unused Dialogue[edit]
- Jensine has two lines for when she first met you that you will never hear, as they are overridden by others:
- "Welcome to Jensine's "Good As New" Merchandise!"
- "Welcome to Jensine's 'Good as New' Merchandise. I'm Jensine. Take your time. I'll be right here."
Bugs[edit]
- Jensine only keeps the store open longer at the weekend because she doesn't have anything else to do. None of her other AI packages are active between 8pm and midnight on Loredas and Sundas, so she keeps doing what she was already doing - serving in the store.
The Unofficial Oblivion Patch, version 3.4.3, fixes this bug.
- On Tirdas and Turdas, Jensine is supposed to go looking for Fathis Ules, but instead simply gets up from her chair and stands around doing nothing. This would seem to be because her AI package is a "Find" rather than "Accompany" or perhaps "Follow".
The Unofficial Oblivion Patch fixes this bug.
- Even upon completing the Imperial Corruption quest, she will still say her farewell saying she will deny speaking out against Audens.
The Unofficial Oblivion Patch fixes this bug.
