Proposed Rewrite

As-is, this page makes an original assumption that the Southern Sea is part of the Padomaic Ocean. This is a holdover from pre-ESO lore stating that Tamriel was fully encompassed by the Padomaic Ocean. When ESO retconned the Abecean Sea into being part of the Eltheric, and later extending the Azurian to Glenumbra and Sea of Pearls to Summerset, the newly introduced Southern Sea was ambiguous in its ocean, thus assumed to be Padomaic due to the earlier claim of all Tamrielic seas being such. However, with the outdated nature of this assumption, I propose the page is rewritten to be ocean-independent.

My first reason for this is the singular mention of the "southern ocean" in the Serpent's Grotto loading screen. The same loading screen states Pyandonea is located within said ocean. Letter from Tanlorin asserts Pyandonea is located within the Southern Sea, firmly tying the two terms together, though this letter is admittedly marked pre-release.

My second reason is the numerous mentions of the "southern seas", plural. Commander Karinith uses the term, as does Captain Jimila, the ESO Knowledge Base (which also has it including Pyandonea, another tie to the previous terms), and Razum-dar, who has two mentions, including rather explicit mention to "all of the southern seas" which includes Summerset's waters and Khenarthi's Roost, as he has you go warn Vulkhel Guard.

My final reason comes from PGE 1, which says "The situation at sea, however, is another story, and the Dominion terrorizes the southern waters from the Cape of the Blue Divide to the Topal Bay." This text uses a unique term, "the southern waters", which includes the Blue Divide, which is included in Razum-dar's usage of "southern seas", and Topal Bay, which is included in Pirates of Topal Bay and the Cave of Broken Sails loading screen's usages of "Southern Sea".

With all this together, I think the page should be rewritten to be an independent body of water which encompasses the Blue Divie and Topal Bay, similarly to how the Eltheric Ocean page lists how it encompasses the Sea of Pearls, Azurian, Abecean, et cetera, and how the Padomaic Ocean page lists how it encompasses the Sea of Ghosts, Inner Sea, et cetera. I would also not be opposed to renaming the page Lore:Southern Seas or Lore:Southern Ocean with this in mind, though it is worth keeping in mind that only Southern Sea is ever capitalized. Mindtrait0r (talk) 17:00, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
