Lore talk:Pocket Guide to the Empire, 3rd Edition
Pocket Guides[edit]
The Pocket Guide to the Empire, both the Redguard edition and the Oblivion edition, provide a good deal of information not found in other books. Since the Lore:Third_Era page references the publishing of the book, and since it seems that Bethesda generally intended the book to be a lore item, not a player's manual, I think it should be included in the wiki, perhaps in the Books section.
However, I understand that there may be some objection to adding this particular item to the wiki, since it is not an in-game item, and I'd like to open the floor for such discussion. It is my opinion that the valuable information (and perhaps more importantly, future linkable references) it would bring to the wiki outweigh any confusion that may be caused by adding a "real-life" book to our collection.
Also, I'll do the work, I just don't want to step on anyone's toes by posting something that really isn't wanted. --Kementari 16:52, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
- The main reason they're not on the site right now is concerns about copyright. Both are printed materials separate from the game that contain explicit copyright statements. This is distinctly different from the in-game books that are only available lumped together with the rest of the game; the in-game books can easily be justified under the fair-use clauses which specify that only a small part of the copyrighted material can fairly be used. Although TIL has copies of both posted online (PGE and PGE3), it's not really clear to me how they've justified it. Basically, it's something that I feel is sufficiently uncertain that it really needs to be Daveh's decision as to whether or not he wants the legal responsibility of having these books added to UESP. --NepheleTalk 18:10, 25 March 2008 (EDT)

- Oh, I didn't even think of that. Thanks for pointing it out. I just assumed that since TIL had them, they'd be okay to use, but I'm glad you caught that. Disappointing, really... but in the interim (or if Daveh decides not to permit their use), would an external link to TIL be appropriate if needed for citation? --Kementari 18:48, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
(←) In that case, make with the links. :P Temple-Zero 22:39, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
Tree structure for PGE[edit]
I created a suggested tree structure for the sub-articles of the PGE, 3rd edition, which we now can host. If there are no objections by tomorrow, I'll fill in the transcription at the redlinks from User:RobinHood70/PGE. We can then start linking internally to articles, and replace the external links to TIL site-wide. --Benould•T•C 16:55, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
