Vardan was a Reachman member of the Bloodthorn Cult and a subordinate of Angof the Gravesinger. He was responsible for introducing the Cult to the island of Betnikh and ensuring their presence there.[2][1][3]
History[edit]
Little is known of Vardan's past and personal history. At some point he joined the Bloodthorn Cult. With a desire to expand the cult's reach beyond Glenumbra, Vardan secretly established a foothold on the remote island of Betnikh. In 2E 582, in his quest to find the scroll required for his rituals, he found and explored the famous library of King Renwic. This discovery led him to Carzog's Demise, where he discovered a powerful Ayleid relic. In his pursuit, he disturbed the spirits of the Ayleids, Bretons, and Orcs who once inhabited the island. He aimed to eliminate the Seamount Clan and control the island, then betray Angof and seize all of Glenumbra. Although Angof provided him with support, the initiates he received were significantly inexperienced.[3][4][1]
However, his scheme was uncovered by the Orcs of the Seamount Clan and the Vestige, who put a stop to it. Vardan, with the assistance of Drusilla Nerva and his other subordinates of the Bloodthorn Cult used a scroll, Breton ritual and the Welkynd stone to enter the spirit realm, where from, with the aid of the relic, he controlled the spirits against the Orcs.[2][5][6] The portal was eventually closed, preventing anyone with a soul from crossing over, and presumably killing Vardan's physical body, as it could not survive without the soul.[6][4] His spirit remained intact, however, The Vestige, being soulless, could enter the spirit realm without the need for the ritual, and as such ventured to the spirit realm alone and successfully killed Vardan's spirit, ending his plots and machinations.[4][7]
