Freydis was a Nord noblewoman from the mid-Second Era. In life, she was the High Queen of Eastern Skyrim, the eastern half of Skyrim that split from the west after the death of her father, High King Logrolf. Freydis is the progenitor of Eastern Skyrim's dynasty and the namesake of the Crown of Verity's alternate name, the Crown of Freydis.[1] Like her descendants, Freydis had curly red hair.[2]
Freydis was the daughter of High King Logrolf, who ruled Skyrim in the late years of the Akaviri Potentate era.[1] The royal family lived in the Blue Palace, the seat of power in Solitude.[3] But after the High King's death in 2E 431, Freydis' legitimacy to the throne was questioned by the Jarl of Solitude, Svartr. A moot was decided to determine the next leader. But while the Crown of Verity chose Freydis in Windhelm, a partial moot in Solitude chose Svartr, and so a schism occurred that split Skyrim between the east and west.[1]
In the schism, remnants of Logrolf's reign were destroyed in the Blue Palace,[4] including Freydis' possessions, but her baby clothes noticeably escaped harm's way.[3] Freydis went on to become High Queen of the new Kingdom of Eastern Skyrim, wielding the Crown of Verity as a symbol of her office.[1] At some point in her reign, Queen Freydis made a bid to conquer Cyrodiil, which at the time was lawless in the Interregnum. A small topaz bead fell from her battle cloak and became a valuable piece of contraband.[5]
Queen Freydis' weapon of choice was her legendary steel sword. For the longest time, it was kept in its resting place somewhere in Skyrim until it was recovered in 4E 201 by an adventurer for Ulfric Stormcloak.[6] In time, Queen Freydis passed away and her heirs continued to rule Eastern Skyrim. In her honor, they renamed the Crown of Verity to the Crown of Freydis, and continued to wear it for years.[1]
