Skyrim talk:Build Your Own Home
Conditions for receiving letter[edit]
On one character, I completed Laid to Rest before level 9, and never spoke to the jarl of Falkreath. After leveling up, I never got the letter, neither from Siddgeir nor anyone else. This was before I had visibly started the Build You Own Home quest. I have the Unofficial Patch, but I don't see any changes to this in their changelog.
It is also possible to receive the letter from other jarls, see Skyrim talk:Letter from Jarl (Jarl's Name) of (Jarl's City). So the conditions as stated on the page seem to be wrong in two ways. --Ethruvisil (talk) 02:13, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
- The only favor quest for Jarl Skald has a minimum level of 22, and this letter is decided at level 9, so it would seem to be impossible to get a letter from him unless perhaps you played the game without Hearthfire and then installed it later. Maybe it's possible to get a letter from Brina Merilis if you manage to install her as Jarl before level 9. While theoretically I don't see any reason you couldn't activate the letter from the Hjaalmarch steward following the steps you gave, perhaps for some reason that also doesn't work except when installing Hearthfire into an existing game. --Olaus (talk) 17:27, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
"If you did not talk to Farengar Secret-Fire during the Bleak Falls Barrow quest yet, you will not get the option to ask the jarl for any jobs, nor will you be able to tell him you got his letter. This will block you from becoming a thane and thus accessing the house until you progress the main quest. If you want to evade starting Dragon Rising to avoid enabling dragons in Skyrim but still want to access to Lakeview Manor, you can progress the Bleak Falls Barrow quest to the point where you need to give Farengar the tablet and stop there. This will make Siddgeir talk to you about "tasks" or the letter but won't enable dragons. "
- I have never seen this happen in dozens of completely unmodded games (I always delay Dragon Rising and always start the game unmodded).
"Once you are eligible to start this quest in one of the other two holds by having befriended their jarl, Siddgeir will not offer Rare Gifts or Kill the Bandit Leader, which will make the house unavailable in Falkreath. "
- This has also never happened to me in many unmodded games.
