The Telvanni Peninsula was a region in the eastern part of mainland Morrowind, and is bracketed by the Inner Sea to the west and the Padomaic Ocean to the east.[1] It was composed of two regions: the fertile river valleys of the Fungal Lowlands, and the rocky volcanic cliff coastlines of the Padomaic Crest.[2] The land south of the region is made up of the coastal Bal Foyen and fertile Deshaan Plain areas,[3] while the land north of it is made up of badlands and arid desert plateaus,[4][UOL 1] whose inhabitants wear Dust Adept clothing to adapt to its dry environment.[5][6] As the Indoril presently control the heartlands and entire east coast,[7] and the Telvanni lost all holdings on the mainland, it is unknown what it is now named or if the region still exists.[8]
Geography[edit]
The Telvanni Peninsula borders Bal Foyen and Deshaan to the south. It shares the Inner Sea waters of Zafirbel Bay with Vvardenfell, separated by the Vvardenfell Rift.[9][UOL 2] The land north of Necrom is separated by a ridge and controlled by Indoril, with Firewatch being the largest city in the region. The northern extremities are very dry, while the southern reaches are more temperate.[4] The landscape consists of fertile plains in the east, and badlands in the west.[UOL 2] In particular, the north has arid desert plateaus, mesas, and high steppes.[UOL 1] Inhabitants of the northern peninsula wear "Dust Adept" clothing to adapt to its dry environment.[5][6] In the Padomaic Ocean, the isles surrounding the palace of Port Telvannis[10][11][UOL 3] are found across the Sea of Ghosts to the northeast.[12] The archipelago is a mix of rocky, rugged terrain and flat plains.[13][14][UOL 4] The island of Vounoura is found roughly a month's voyage away from Tel Aruhn,[15] but it is unknown whether it is near the Peninsula. The peninsula is visible from Stonefalls across the waters of the Inner Sea.[16]
Fungal Lowlands[edit]
The Fungal Lowlands are a spacious tract of wilderness and river valleys making up the western half of the peninsula. It is composed of flatlands along the river, with a number of secluded clearings between the road and the coast.[2]
Its main settlement is Ald Isra, where the Mouths of the Telvanni Magisters convene. The Dwemer ruin of Kemel-Ze is found along the coast, with easy access to it from boats and nearby mainland villages, such as Marog.[9]
Padomaic Crest[edit]
The Padomaic Crest is a volcanic range making up the eastern half of the peninsula. The eastern end of the formation creates a secondary peninsula where the city of Necrom lies.[2]
The eastern coast of Morrowind is a coastline of treacherous cliffs, especially in the region around Necrom.[9]
The island of Gorne is found north of Necrom, in the bay between the Padomaic Crest and the northern peninsula.[17]
History[edit]
In 3E 121, King Uriel Mantiarco of Solitude coordinated a three-way attack. In his second attack against the Empire, Uriel's forces targeted multiple Imperial garrisons on coastal islands in Eastern Morrowind. While the Elder Council was occupied with the battle in Morrowind and with the first attack in the Iliac Bay, the King captured the Imperial City and proclaimed himself Emperor Uriel Septim III. One of the Empire's casualties here was Empress Kintyra II's consort, Kontin Arynx.[18] By the time the War of the Diamond took place, all of northern Morrowind supported Emperor Uriel III and Potema, the Wolf Queen of Solitude.[19]
Politics[edit]
Despite the name, House Telvanni's control over the peninsula has waxed and waned over the centuries. During the Interregnum of the Second Era, House Telvanni cared little for what lies outside of their sanctuary on the coast and controlled a number of strongholds (such as Ald Isra, Tel Baro, Tel Dreloth, Tel Hlurag Ven, and Tel Rendys) across the length and breadth of the peninsula.[10][20][21] The main exclusion to this was the City of Necrom, which was under control of the Keepers of the Dead (an arm of the Temple) and remained independent from any great houses,[22] and the island of Gorne which was administrated by House Indoril.[23] The Temple also administered Sailenmora.[24] House Dres had already began carving territory in the southwest, and the Cammona Tong head quartered themselves in a den called Camonnaruhn just south of the Dres.[25] Few Ashlanders make their home on the Peninsula.[26]
By the end of the Second Era, House Telvanni's territory on the peninsula was limited solely to the hills and islands of the extreme northeast, who preferred to tend their herds of giant insects amid the rocky arid hills and islands of that corner.[3][UOL 5] By that time the Indoril controlled most of it, particularly the east coast up to Necrom and west coast all along the Inner Sea.[7]
In the Third Era, the Indoril control much of the central highlands, eastern coast and western coast, while House Dres controlled the southeast coast surrounding Alavelis.[7] House Telvanni's holdings on the peninsula once consisted of Tel Aedrin, Velothis Haven,[27][UOL 1] and Llothanis Heights.[28] Baldaras,[UOL 6] Greenheights, Helnim Wall, Sailen Vulgate, and Draloris lie within the borders of the Indoril District. House Indoril also controlled the ancient fortress of Bal Tereg, found near Firewatch on the inlet of Ouada Gla'amnir.[UOL 6]
The Bathogorgen, who have the power of shapeshifting into virtually anything, are the dominant vampire clan of the region.[UOL 6] The Dusksaber vampires were active in the peninsula during the Second Era.[29]
As of the Fourth Era, the Telvanni have no territory on the peninsula or anywhere else on the mainland; their properties are all on Vvardenfell and Solstheim.[8]

Notes[edit]
- A concept map of Morrowind suggested that Necrom and Sailen Vulgate's House affiliation may be House Dres, Draloris (at the approximate site of Dragon Glade) was affiliated with House Indoril.[UOL 2]
- The biome map for Arena featured mountainous terrain in the center south of the peninsula, near Necrom. Later maps of Tamriel show mountains flowing up along the west coast of the peninsula, or mountainous terrain along almost the entirety of the peninsula.
