Dwemer (called Dwarves by men) are an extinct race of elves known for their technologically advanced society. Dwarven society began in Morrowind and spread to Skyrim, Hammerfell, and beyond. They disappeared suddenly in 1E 700, leaving behind Dwemer ruins inhabited by their still-functioning automatons. Sotha Sil also took inspiration from the Dwemer when making his Clockwork City.

Dwemer can only be encountered in the game as spectres within Arkngthunch-Sturdumz on Vvardenfell.

Notes

• In an interview with Game Informer, creative director Rich Lambert informed that the team had every intention of pursuing the mysteries surrounding the Dwemer, but Todd Howard "kindly reminded [them] that this was something [they] will never do, [they] will never come out and spoil the mystery and the secrets of the Dwemer." Bill Slavicsek explained in 2022 that the team "also believe[s] in the rules of the universe and there are certain mysteries that will never be answered. The Dwemer are one of those — [they] are not going to step anywhere near that."
